Horning's Mills

Reflections yesterday in pond at Horning's Mills, Ontario

We were out for a drive yesterday and happened upon a hamlet called Horning's MIlls in western Ontario. It was settled in 1830 and by the turn of the twentieth century the settlement had six or seven mills and 350 inhabitants. I'm not sure a census could scrape together that many people there now.

If you squint, you can see a little waterfall and I'm thinking this may have been the location of one of the mills. If it weren't for the cedar, everything in this photo would look brown and grey. Unfortunately, the sky was grey too. In spite of that, it was actually a very nice day.

The day may have been gray, but you got a fine picture anyway. I think you must be right about this being the location of one of the mills.

OMG I love this picture and the whole area. I would love to be there now poking around taking pictures and just enjoying. Do you need another passenger? What a great shot. I can't say enough about it----------

Love the windmill in the previous post.

This is such a serene and bucolic scene...you did a great job capturing it's essence. I think it would be a good place just to sit and relax for awhile.

What a great capture! I see many shades of color around the old mill. It looks very rustic and if you had bright colors, it would no look so quaint.

I love taking pictures with a grey sky, the sun is beautiful but often the colors suffer too much.

Lovely shot - it looked like a coastal town with the nets there.
