Kitesurfing/ Our World

 Kitesurfing off Sauble Beach, Ontario

Near sundown on Sunday a week ago, a bevy of kitesurfers (a.k.a. kiteboarders) enjoyed the wind and waves on Lake Huron. Sauble Beach boasts of sandy shores, shallow waters and steady winds. Apparently from May to October, this beach is the windiest place in Ontario

Two kitesurfers

As kitesurfers played, their kites passed by each other.

Lift off!

It was fun to see a few kites lift kitesurfers into the air.

Those are wonderful images, and yes I can tell the wind is really whipping them around! Did they have wetsuits on? I can't tell...

A brush of golden hue in the photos lends a nice bit of sunglow to the scenes. The blustery waves remind me more of an ocean than a lake. Kite or windsurfers are here in BC, too, and I am in awe of their spirit of adventure. But I have yet to see one get swept up in the air!

Having visited Sauble many times, I can attest that it is indeed a very windy place!

And you stood there, in your winter coat, taking pictures of these fools who dared to tempt fate right in front of your eyes! ;-)

Not my thing, but you got some nice action shots.

Re your comment about gold buyers: You're absolutely right...I sold a little bit one time and got almost nothing for it. They are awful scams!

This looks like real fun - you've captured the action and the atmosphere of this windy lake.

It looks like fun but it also looks cold.

I am always fascinated by kites and the rivalry among the people who fly these kites. Beautiful how you show this action.

This is the closest I've seen that. It's pretty cool. Great pics.

Amazing. I can't imagine doing anything like this at this time of year in Ontario. Brrrr.
The bravest thing I've ever done was water-skiing, which was great fun. In summer.
So interesting to see the things some people will do for fun, however. Thanks for the entertainment!

Beautifully presented.
Such delicate images.
All colour-coordinated. A real pleasure to see.
BTW, sloes give a good green or a soft rose, depending on the mordant.

I have moved to Pt Chevalier where people do windsurfing and kite surfing.

These photos are amazing, and the color is beautiful. I've never seen kite surfers lifted as high out of the water as the surfer in your third picture. Unbelievable.

I agree with everyone about the color. Nice shots.

I wonder how many times you get your arms pulled out at the shoulder before you get this sorted.

The changing light was an issue - but in the end I was driven out of the fields by mosquitoes - should not have worn shorts!

Beautiful colour to the sky. They like to kite surf here on Bellingham Bay. We usually have a good breeze for them to use. I also saw a kite go-cart in Steveston riding through the open area of the park. - Margy

I can't stand it that my body would probably not be able to do this any more. Kite surfing looks soooo zen.
