Green Heron Encore/Wild Bird

Green heron (Butorides virescens) scratching an itch

Watching a green heron can be hysterical. This one was particularly funny, but I didn't laugh out loud because I didn't want it to know I was spying on it.

Still scratching

This is a continuation of last week's post, which you can see HERE.

Crouching down looking for a fish

This is what a heron's rear end looks like when it's crouched down.

A more familiar angle for when it's crouched down

I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

What a riot! This guy reminds me of the old Roadrunner cartoons! What a character. Don't know how you refrained from breaking out in gales of laughter!

Re your comment about the horse in the yard: I think you're right - it is one spoiled horse!

Oh bow legged heron. So funny. You really got some neat pictures.

Regarding your comment about the barn--The road might not even had been there when the barn was built or maybe just a narrow dirt road. MB

I am jealous. I have taken a photo like the last one, but the first three are very much different from anything I have seen.

Wonderful photos, EG!

Lorelei would love these, too...well at least if they were the real thing. She is always telling me, "Mamaw, come here!" "What kind of bird is that?"

She is already a bird lover.
