Lake Ontario/ Watery Wednesday

Last weekend's weather was partly sunny and perfect for driving around Lake Ontario, the Great Lake between Ontario and New York state. My husband I traveled to Rochester, just across the lake from Toronto.

Although the water was actually choppy in some areas, it wasn't here because of the breakwater. No birds were on the lake...not even sea gulls. However, we did see gulls, geese, ducks and swans further inland at the mouths of the many creeks that empty into the lake.

  2. Here, in Europe, we would call it an Inland sea ; )
We got seagulls in Paris, around the Seine.
    Wonderful autumnal picture.

  5. I just read your comment on MB's blog about the chestnut trees. You said that they were practically wiped out by a disease some years ago. Very sad, the trees are so beautiful! Big trunks and yellow leaves in autumn!
Here in Austria, they are also threatened by a disease. In Vienna, there are many alleys consisting of horse chestnut trees.
Fortunately, biocides are sprayed on the trees every year and the old leaves are burned, but I think you can do this only with a restricted number of trees and not with endless woods, as in Canada.
I think some kind of moth causes the disease.
About 20 years ago, elm trees were wiped out here in Central Europe and there was no help for them. Sad, isn't it?

  6. Although it is beautiful, that water looks cold. I'm not sure why, maybe the fall colors. BJ

  7. I lived in Toronto several years ago and always loved the lake. We crossed it a few times to the islands and the fun place there. Your photos for My World are lovely and I can truly identify with them all. Love the Hallowe'en decorations also; isn't it such a fun season!

  9. These are wonderful photos and make me long for the Great Lakes. Most of my family were from northern Ohio and I spent a lot of time around Lake Erie as a child. I would love to spent more time following each of the Great Lakes. Lovely!

  11. It's interesting not to have seen any birds, still with that view I'll bet they weren't really missed too much. Really nice shots! :-)
