My husband and I were driving along a country road yesterday when we spotted a herd of goats heading towards the road. Naughty goats. Somehow they'd escaped their enclosed grazing area. I guess they wanted fresh grass (it's barely up yet) and reasoned it might be greener on the other side?My husband stopped the car so my camera could catch them in the act. The goats' owner had hopped into a vehicle and driven down the driveway to head them off. The first photo shows a few goats playing "peekaboo! You can't see me!"
The second photo shows the game is over -- "OOPS! I guess you can see me after all!"
That's a bunch of goats!
ReplyDeleteMy mother liked to keep milk goats as long as she was able. She named each one of them.
We have quite a number of goats in Norway too, especially in the mountainous areas. It is said that they are especially fond of chewing tobacco - is that true in Canada too?

they are VERY curious critters...
One we had would jump up on the kids Trampoline...that was a HOOT
We sure learned fast to Tether...them or hte Fruit trees, the rose bushes etc were a done deal
However they did a number on the poison ivy... ;)
Goats always seem to have "other" ideas, don't they?

ReplyDeleteYou asked about Hard Times Farm... The two round windows are not part of the farm house as such, it was a hay barn and the round opening are seen often in such barns for letting air in. The stone is local and would have been quarried close by.. theres many small quarries within a short distance of here. The stone is I think Millstone Grit... and is a form of hard sand stone.. this would have been cut with chisels and wedges of wood. It seem hard to imagine how there did that with the tools of the day. I would think the farm is well over 200 years...

ReplyDeleteGoats can be crazy! About 10 years ago I used to drive past a ranch that had a huge population of goats. There was an over turned car on the property and every morning there wer goats sitting on the car. It would make me smile every day!

I hear many tobacco farmers are switching over to raising goats, so there is a connection.
