Loner, unsure, tentative -
once a part, now apart,
like glacial debris adrift.
Cautions of human contact -
alert and defensive,
yet ice slowly melting.
Greeted, accepted, connected -
a stranger no more,
joined into the human flow.

That is a tempting tummy to tickle there!
ReplyDeletehmmmm....I have a cat that when she lays like that I call it her "Venus Flytrap" position. She only LOOKS defenseless, but is actually daring you to touch her belly so she can rip your arm off. Your cat looks very sweet!
ReplyDeleteShe's almost as fat as one of my cats! I bet she's not all that defenseless either.
ReplyDeleteOh noes! You've "posted the cat"!

nice capture
ReplyDeleteGood poem.
ReplyDeleteJust had a conversation with my mom about this. She has just moved to assisted living after five years alone. Now, she wonders why she let herself get so isolated.
I love hearing her tell me not to call in the afternoon, because is busy!
Looks like he is waiting on a tickle. Nice capture.
ReplyDeleteGlad the kitty's ice is melting. I don't like seeing lonely kitties. Nice picture of it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a delightful poem. Just feels good to read it.
ReplyDeleteHey EG Guide, our new dog, Katrin, is like that. Adi never was.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, many people are having this situation. I hope their ice melts fast.
A very nice poem, thank you.

I admire the way you presented the story in this form. Thank you for a great post and poem. Beautiful cat, by the way.
ReplyDeleteD..n, you are GOOD! Wonderful poem, Cat... well it's a cat, a thing I walk by without thinking about it much. Dogs... I walk across traffic to pet. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't you love it when they invite you to rub the belly? So cute!
ReplyDeleteCats in this position are always playful and want to be cuddled. Your photos are brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAh, if only all hearts would melt like this! It's a perfect metaphor and a beautiful image of learning to trust. You used the prompt well.
ReplyDeleteYou must look trustworthy! ;)
ReplyDeleteActually..it is a great position as all 4 clawed feet are free to attack as I have found when I thought it was an invitation to rub a cat's tummy..ouch...
