Defenses Down

Loner, unsure, tentative -
once a part, now apart,
like glacial debris adrift.

Cautions of human contact -
alert and defensive,
yet ice slowly melting.

Greeted, accepted, connected -
a stranger no more,
joined into the human flow.

Created in response to Defenses Down, this week's meme prompt found at One Single Impression: http://onesingleimpression.blogspot.com/

  2. hmmmm....I have a cat that when she lays like that I call it her "Venus Flytrap" position. She only LOOKS defenseless, but is actually daring you to touch her belly so she can rip your arm off. Your cat looks very sweet!

  3. She's almost as fat as one of my cats! I bet she's not all that defenseless either.

  5. Good poem.
Just had a conversation with my mom about this. She has just moved to assisted living after five years alone. Now, she wonders why she let herself get so isolated.

I love hearing her tell me not to call in the afternoon, because is busy!
