Poppy Pods I ponder nature’s capsules -
living miracles,
dormant and appearing lifeless
yet chockfull of
wondrous possibilities.
I ponder political promises –
dynamic seeds
replete with wealth, success,
happiness and poof!
disappointing hocus pocus.
I ponder political rumors -
robust germs
alive with exaggeration, fear,
and malicious lies.
Is this democracy?
Please note: Canadians vote on October 14, 2008.
Love this!! Your deeper than you first appear. :) It's a good thing.
ReplyDeletethis is really quite a striking image
ReplyDeleteThank you for this perfect photo and this very meaningful poem! I agree with you!
ReplyDeleteI have to read and reread this poem. You see poppies make me always think of their beauty and also of their dangerous attraction in another way. I think of the poppies destroyed in countries where they are grown for drugs reasons. Is that what you meant in this very great poem?
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo and very nice poem.
ReplyDeleteYou, woman, are a jaded cynicv!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fascinating response to the prompt. The link to the calling of the election is terrific. NZ is in the same boat.
All politicians deal in barren seeds.
"All politicians deal in barren seeds"_
ReplyDeletebig thanks for the awakening..
Good job, we need more political poetry.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast between living miracles and the often nightmarish seeds of political words is profound.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful photo.
I choose to place my faith in the 'wondrous possibilities' of nature! Well written, your observations hold the 'seeds of truth'.

This is a very striking shot and the political analogy thoguthfully done.
ReplyDeleteFabulous image! And what deep ponderings :)
ReplyDeleteOh I just love this poetry. And tThose poppy seeds are just awesome!
ReplyDeleteexcellent in every way - wow I loved this sandy
ReplyDeleteVery intriguing take on the prompt. I draw a connection between the photo and the words, and think that politicians are addicted to the drug of their own power.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo. The poem gives me plenty to ponder. BJ
ReplyDeletepotent analogy!
ReplyDeleteWell said! I feel like the US and our election here have moved into some kind of Twilight Zone and it's one of the really scary episodes. Lord help us all.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the award! You SO deserve it. The goat is adorable, and I WOULD believe it would eat a tin can... well, maybe not, but most anything else. And I LOVE these seed pods. (I'm catching up, can you tell?) The seed pods are just gorgeous. Excellent photo.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot. The forms, the light, the sky, all well seen and well photographed.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all - wonderful image - love the light.
ReplyDeleteYour words could just as well fit the political scene here in the US - well done - I loved it.
Love the first stanza and it's 'wondrous possibilities'!
ReplyDeleteBeing in the thick of the presidential election here for what now seems like the past 4 years, I am weary of the political promises -from every direction. I wish tomorrow were election day.
Sorry my late sky watch-comment. But here I am;)
ReplyDeleteYour sky watch-shots are hust wonderful and so is this shot. Fantastic shot!
Have fun:)
The poppy photo is wonderful. It's narcotic nature might be of assistance in getting through the silly season of politics.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot!
ReplyDelete"capsules" : good word :-) Vote for the good ones !
ReplyDeleteIf this photo isn't perfect it's pretty darn close!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo, and what you write is how I have been feeling about the election here in the US, too.
ReplyDeleteNature never lies.
ReplyDeleteI liked the analogies in this. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower. We must ponder.
ReplyDeleteThis is great and you just named something else for me. I took a shot of some of these a while back. I knew they were pods but didn't know of what. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love poppy pods and the way they pop when the blossom is ready.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful photo and an interesting poem that gives food for thought.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo. Yes, I'll take nature's capsules any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteGreat contrast in those first two verses... and a nice photo to go with it!
ReplyDeleteThis, it seems, is what democracy has become. A striking juxtaposition I wouldn't have imagined. And a good, good poem. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteReally marvellous photograph with splendid colours!
