Tuesday morning was cool but peaceful at the pond. Then overhead...we heard Canada geese flying southward below the clouds. What a racket they were making!
They circled over the southern end of the pond, glided in to a few inches above the water and then...
plopped in.
The geese didn't appear to worry about the temperature, which was low enough for snow to stick to the trees but not so frigid that ice formed on the water. (My feet are feeling chilly as I think about the geese paddling around,)
Perhaps these fowl plan to winter here (a few do). Or maybe the pond was just a stopover, a brief morning bathing area before heading to "balmy" Lake Ontario. Brrrr.

Beautiful sky full of geese. Recently we have been treated to the sound of geese honking as they fly by. I don't know where/if they land locally.
ReplyDeleteDarla
These are great photos. Those geese cheat, you know. They carry their own goose down!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the noise they make!! Something so joyful about it
ReplyDeleteBoth scenes are wonderful, the second one is my fave. the dusting of snow and the big guys taking a dip ;)
Lovely pair of photos that perfectly capture the feeling of early winter.
ReplyDeleteAt least I once again, kept from blaming y'all for all my coldness! Love the photographs with the geese! Terrific captures! We have the wimpier geese down my way. lol!
ReplyDeleteYou have a hardy lot of fowl there. Our CG just wander around in public grassy areas, parks and fields eating and distributing the by product. Can you belive I am being so couth? I don't know what has comeoverme. :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky watch photos, but then you already know I like the outdoors and wildlife. The snow on the trees completes the images, but I am in no hurry for snow here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. I like the minimal coloration of the first one. I love to hear the noise they make.
ReplyDeleteThe geese are a beautiful addition and the water does look cold! Happy skywatching!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I am very enchanted with such beauty!
ReplyDeleteYou pictures are so beautiful. May I use them for my computer background?. I love watching the birds. We don't get too many Canada Geese here in the Valley although Seattle has year-round residents that live in the parks. MB
ReplyDeleteIndeed you may, MB. Glad you like the Canada geese.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting and beautiful set of photos. Gorgeous captures!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, they make me cold just looking at them:-)
Happy sky and bird watching:-)
Wow - these are gorgeous photos. I love the sound they make - just for a while. Then I'm good with them flying on!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's.
ReplyDeleteLooks COLD!!!
It is snowing here now, light accumulations expected....I guess winter is going to arrive.
Take care and thanks for sharing your pics with us.
Very pretty Ms. T.Guide. I think those geese were catching a little rest on the way to our house for the winter (Texas).
ReplyDeleteHappy SkyWatching.
..
How marvelous! Except for the cold part! I wonder if any of the geese were 'my geese'. They come every spring and migrate in the fall to who knows where! I sure miss them when they're gone!
ReplyDeleteOr even making there way here. Lvely natural shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenes EG. I too wonder how the geese/ducks can swim in cold lakes without freezing! I'm happy I'm not a water fowl :D
ReplyDeleteHappy skywatch!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on award from Mary the Teach, a great honor!

There will be many bird species, but lots of geese, ducks and cranes, especially.
