FYI: MyWorld is one post below.November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada and this is one shelf in the war section of a used-book store in Newmarket.
Every year at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Canadians pause for a moment of silence to remember the more than one and a half million men and women who’ve served or continue to serve our country.

It is known as Veteran's Day in the US, and poppies are the perfect complement on November 11. I note that not many in the US are aware of the real allies we and the Canadians were in WWII. And together were able to destroy a real threat. Thanks to our WWII allies in Canada, as always a great neighbor!

Thanks for this. In these times when our military here in the US has been used for ill purpose, it's important to remember the times before when that wasn't the case.

I enjoyed your MyWorld post and R-T post. Of course this is also a holiday in Belgium. In the western part of Flanders hundreds of thousend young men died in 14-18. Of course also the poppies in my R-T post
ReplyDeleteA very fine contribution for RT, 11/11 is a national holiday in Flanders (Dirk also made a beautiful log about it as you saw) and expecially on that day, but on other days too, Canada is in our hearts.

ReplyDeleteDid not know the story of poppies with veterans remembrance. Saw another post for the veterans with poppies in it and did not understand it. Thanks for teaching me something new. It is a great post and tribute.
