Please note: MY World is the post below.We were out for a drive on Sunday taking advantage of the blue sky, wispy clouds and sun, when we turned down a dirt road to "see what we could see."
And what we found were these RED apples still clinging to a tree. The hard-to-reach apples must frustrate the local deer NOW, but later on when the fruit does fall the deer will be pleased to nibble on a frozen dinner.

That is such an interesting view - the fruit stays on the tree while all the leaves have departed. Must be a hearty fruit that bears as the cold Ontarian winter fast approaches!

Those look a lot like the crabapple trees we have down here -- at least from this distance. Except the fruit appears to be a bit larger. Possibly because you don't have as many pesky squirrels stripping the tree bare before the fruit has a chance to mature?

We have crabapple trees here where the apples cling on the tree all through the winter and feed the birds in the hard times before spring as the apples shrink down to cherry sizr or smaller.

Th sour Norwegian winter apples are much sought for here.
They can be stored for long and contains no pesticides.
Maybe you should bring a bucket next time?

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting find! The last apple tree I saw, the fruit was all over the ground and I thought, what a waste. At least the deer won't let those go to waste. :-)
