Pasque Flower/ Today's Flowers

Easily my favourite spring flowers (at least this week), pasque flowers bloom in my gardens the last week in April and through all of May. Each blossom measures between two to four inches across and can be pink, reddish, lavender or purple. I have pasque flowers in several spots around my yard.

Hmmm. How did that ant creep into my photo?


The clump to the back looks like it's one plant with many coloured flowers but, for sure, a few seeds must have landed in the one pot when they were sown. I purchased the clump three or four years ago as a tiny plant not knowing there were actually several in the pot until they flowered. Since pasque flowers resent being transplanted, I decided to let them stay that way. They seem to get along very well, don't they?

When the flowers fade, feathery seed heads appear, which are also very attractive.

    These are so pretty. I was just remarking for the millionth time that so many flower petals resemble fabrics. Or the other way around, really. These remind of me crinkly gauze. Beautiful.

    Oh I love thar flower. We seem to have only the purple ones here, maybe a few pink ones. I do love the seed pods too. Your pictures are glorious. MB

    More superb floral fotos! I've never seen such flowers in Florida...we have some similar but not the same.

    Those are beautiful photos of some beautiful flowers. I like the first shot where you can see the veins in the petals. Took me a while to see the ant, though!

    I've never seen them in anything other than purple. They are such beautiful flowers. Their seed heads are equally gorgeous.

    Your flower must have been so sweet, that ant has a very strong sense for sweets, LOL. Anyway, that pasque are like paintings. So beautiful.

    Beautiful flowers known in my country as "Manisa tulips". "Manisa" is the name of a province in Western Anatolia close to the Aegean Sea. Pasque flowers live in the mountains of that region. But, as far as I know, these are poisonous flowers, aren't they?

    I am not familiar with that flower but it sure is a beauty in all colors! Stunning! I hope you will take a photo later on when it loses the petals so we can see the wonders it presents alone.

    Yes, pasque flowers are poisonous. Apparently they taste so bitter that it would be almost impossible to eat enough to cause serious harm though. ;-)
