Canada Day/ Sepia Scenes

Canadian Flag
Today, July 1, is Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada). It's a national holiday celebrating the anniversary of July 1, 1867, the day Canada became a confederation of four provinces (in alphabetical order): New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. Canada is 142 years old today! YAY!

Since 1867, Canada has grown to ten provinces and three territories (in order of joining): Manitoba (July 15, 1870), Northwest Territories (July 15, 1870), British Columbia (July 20, 1871), Prince Edward Island (July 1, 1873), Yukon (June 13, 1898), Alberta (September 1, 1905), Saskatchewan (September 1, 1905), Newfoundland (March 31, 1949) and not but not least Nunavut (April 1, 1999).

More Trivia: Three of the above provinces and two of the territories were once part of the Northwest Territories (Manitoba, Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nunavut,) so most of Canada's land mass has been a part of confederation since 1870. British Columbia joined a year later and Newfoundland  60 years after that.

Happy birthday, Canada!

  15. Happy Birthday Canada and to all Canadians.
My big sis is Canadian. She lived many years in Lethbridge (actually Coaldale) Alberta where my brother in law was a doctor and a farmer and when his father died they moved back to Kelowna B.C. where he was raised on an apple orchard farm.

    Nice shot. MB

  17. Happy Birthday to a wonderful neighbor and friend, the beautiful confederation of provinces and territories. The longest undefended border in the world, this has not nor will ever be duplicated.

We in the USA should (like all Canadian citizens do)- stand on guard for thee!
