Dated 1912, this bell once belonged to the post office in Uxbridge
Back then did they ring the bell when mail arrived? I really don't know. The bell is now part of the Uxbridge-Scott Museum.

Great detail in this photo, look at how sharp those bricks are in the background.

I wonder the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of a ship's bell, or a school bell, or even a bell at the fire station, but never a Post Office bell!
ReplyDeleteInteresting if they did. I suppose it beats having to send a postie out to deliver. If the town is small enough, just ring then bell to let people know it's ready to collect. Bit of a bummer if you walk the whole way there and there is none for you though! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful picture and is just perfect for Sepia Scenes.
ReplyDeleteWonderful bell, and your artwork in this picture is perfect!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you
Léia
I love how crisp and sharp the details of the bell--and the brick--are.
ReplyDeleteThat bell is so crisp and clear...I can almost hear it ring!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully done! The light fairly shines off that bell...great contrast, and it's sharp as a tack.
ReplyDeleteI like bells, except when they're tolling. Some people say that's 'cause I'm a ding-a-ling!
How wonderful! My church has a bell that would not be allowed to ring today IF it had not been grandfathered in. It is 53 years old.
ReplyDeleteI am sad that they do not take care of this bell of "yours" especially now that it is in a museum. It sure shows wear and tear. I liked seeing such a bell tho. . .
I like it. A bell for the Post Office, wellll--why not. MB
ReplyDeleteSepia is so right for that photo. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteNeat picture, EG.. Love the sepia color(s)...
ReplyDeleteI'll bet they did ring the bell when the mail came. That's neat.
Hugs,
Betsy
Dunno how you processed this image, but the result is great. It's like HDR and Sepia.
ReplyDeleteBrass and bronze look so fine in sepia, the look of subtlety, their shapes more clearly defined. A bell has a classic look, the shape of the bell makes the sounds so clear. The chime of freedom, perhaps? A beauty!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely bell. I remember when the mail was a big deal around here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! And a great subject for sepia.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of a bell in a post office - does make you wonder doesn't it?
ReplyDeletewow. this is one great sepia. i just love how u toned this.
ReplyDeleteI love the way that the shawdows and light play across the bells shiny surface. Great pick for sepia. It creates such a feeling of nostalgia!

ReplyDeleteI love the way you have prepared this photo, it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIncredible sharp detail in this photo! And that bell is so huge! I am sure a crane would be needed to move it!
