Maybe they are waiting for corpse to be in highways ??? If they have no food they have to find some way to get food. Cats and rabbits are often road kills and food for them maybe ?
Great shot of the hawk. They sit on the wires here too but looking over the fields for lunch. I find them very nervous about being photographed and take flight on me.
Great shot indeed! Maybe the hawks think that cars are some kind of animals ... This is at least what seem to think my dogs ... Anything that moves is an animal for them :-)
All your answers are right on! It is, indeed a red-tail, and they are high-way hawks in the winter! Sometimes it seems as though they do line the highway in large numbers. Great photo! ~karen

They're probably putting together a business plan - checking out the numbers - so they can hawk their wares?
ReplyDeleteNo?
Sheesh.
Such a beautiful shot. You knew I'd ask what kind of hawk this is...right?
Jacob, I think this is a red-tailed hawk. They seem to be the most common around here.
ReplyDeleteThose birds should be called "highway hawks" or "highwire hawks," non?! Timing is everything - great shot!
ReplyDeleteI think they are looking for 'road kill'. Easy pickings.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot and you say they won;t hold still for you.

"What's all that about?" is possibly the question in the hawk's mind! All those cars and all that rush and all that impatience...
