Closeup of an osprey nest on a light standard over a soccer field
Again this week, a closeup, not a macro. A pair of osprey returned to East Gwillimbury about two weeks ago. The two have been repairing last year's nest.
The front view of the light standard. It's a long way up.

The Ospreys seem to build their nest anywhere they like. Have you seen the Osprey on the nest?
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteEileen,
ReplyDeleteYes I have seen an osprey on the nest and the other osprey standing on a light standard close by acting as lookout.
We actually have some tall poles with flat board on top for them to rest and build a nest when they come to nest.
ReplyDeletePaulie,
ReplyDeleteIn many places where ospreys build nests we have platforms high above telephone poles for them too. But not here.
Dontcha just love it. There are places along U.S. one south of Miami where an osprey nest (and some eagles' nests) can be seen atop most of the telephone poles.
ReplyDeleteNice shot of this one!
Good shot EG. I like the idea of nesting poles---since we seem to like to take down every tree. Soon our countries tree will be 'The Telephone Pole'. At least the birds will use them. MB
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of these here in Cape Breton. We have one built on one of the lights that surrounds our little league baseball diamond! They have the best seat in the house! ~ks
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting to find a nest there. What a lovely suprise. Found one near my garden too. It was really wonderful watching the eggs hatch and grow into beautiful birds.
Thanks for dropping by. :-)
Not such a long way up if you're flying. Nice shots. I wonder what happens when the lights go on? Nest warmer?
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that must be a very industrious bird to make a nest on top of that pole. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteAntzy
I think that's as close as you're going to get to that osprey nest. They like to nest pretty high up.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots - thanks for putting this up.
ReplyDeleteThat nest looks very high! Have the Ospreys hatched their eggs?
ReplyDeleteWe have no osprey where I live. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat is a strange place for a nest, I must say. You'd think the lights would scare them off. Thanks for sharing - it's a fun photo!
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I don't think I've ever seen bird nests on power/light poles in Australia.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your interest about my photo today. Restoration work in the cemetery is initiated by the trust that runs it but also involves public donations, work by government groups and volunteers such as 'Friends of Rookwood'. I've added some info to my post and a better link with some more historical and restoration facts.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
It will be fun watching the Osprey nesting.
ReplyDeleteClever birds...high up and must be warm too with the lights on.
ReplyDeleteGreat macro and well spotted.
I did not know that we have ospry this far north..I have seen these nests in Florida! It fascinates me how they get those twigs to stay in such high up perches..Nature always surprises me!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a place to choose! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI guess they like to bask in the glow, huh?
How awesome! Wonder if many people pass that by without even noticing?
ReplyDeleteWow....just wow!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent.
Here's My Macro Come visit and view if you have some time in your busy day, as I love tons of company at Hootin' Anni's!!!
That's an amazing place for a nest. But like awarewriter said, not so high up if you're flying.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
This is so cool! Love the detail of the nest! Birds build nests in the darnedest places! Though I wish they would leave my vents alone!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot on the Ospreys nest.
ReplyDeleteThey must have a great view :)
I love seeing their nests! And I love that I can see the same various birds in different areas through blogs. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny place to build a nest! :D
ReplyDeleteTalk about a room with a view!
