"We got things to do. we got eggs to lay
We got ground to dig, and worms to scratch
It takes a lot of sittin', gettin' chicks to hatch
Oh, there ain't nobody here but us chickens...
There ain't nobody here at all"
~ Alex Kramer and Joan Whitney, 1946

still thinking about getting chickens, and those ones are cuties!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Saturday.
Gill
they're so cute! We visited a farm recently and I saw the cutest black and white chicks and rooster. Thanks for dropping by to see me. Hope you enjoy the textures.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. My pic yesterday was a rooster, but the only kind that's allowed in the city -- ceramic! I love your alive chickens in your collage. Chickens seem to have so much confidence and aren't nearly as "flighty" (no pun intended) as those little nervous birds!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I can still remember when as a kid I'd spend time at Grandma's farm in northern Minnesota (during the summer) and had the chore of collecting eggs and reaching underneath the hens only to get my hands pecked. Great fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful captures...were they all from one farm or from several places?
ReplyDeleteChickens are fun to watch! Your collage made me smile.
ReplyDeletethose are good collages and a great poem to go along with it. I'm organising a post on chickens just now but it probably won't be published till next Friday.
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of the movie "Chicken run" - you have caught the spirit :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment - it is much appreciated. BTW, I have also posted another photo about the same date.
Love this series of captures. Great composition.
ReplyDeleteCute chickens :) I bet they enjoy being able to scratch for food again outside.
ReplyDeleteThey're adorable!
ReplyDeleteI bet they are worn out after Easter!
ReplyDeleteI love that song, your images are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThis so appeals to this country girl!
ReplyDeleteLove them and the poem!
Carletta’s Captures.
Lovely photos and a great poem for Camera Critters day.
ReplyDeleteNice chickens. Valerie
ReplyDeleteCute post! One of our neighbors recently acquired a rooster. I haven't seen him yet, but I can hear him every day--and not just in the morning. The sound seems a little out of place in this wooded suburban neighborhood, but it always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteYou made me chuckle.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics of the chicks! I especially like that little brown one.
ReplyDeleteRose,
ReplyDeleteThey were from one farm, free-range chickens, I suspect. Very free-range. They were actually feeding very close to the road so I talked my husband into stopping so I could take their photos.
Those chickens are so cute. I remember being closer to them when I was little. A brief flash back in memory lane. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Gives new meaning to the term 'free range' and they're lucky none of them played in the traffic.
ReplyDeleteThose guys think they are the bee's knees. :)
ReplyDeleteYou captured some handsome roosters and beautiful hens. This is a great Camera Critters mosaic.
ReplyDeleteCool chickens, I want chickens sooooo bad.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! Excellent post. Great mosaic. You are the best. MB
ReplyDeleteThis is darn cute! I think this would make a great framed photo in someone's kitchen. =)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! Love their colouring and expressions!
ReplyDeletethey're pretty cute, great up close shots!
ReplyDeleteChickens are the most pleasant domestic animals in a rural area! Yours are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Thanks for your visit!
ReplyDeleteCute chickens!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice watching them pecking about.
wonderful critters,a very busy creatures!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent camera critters post that brings back a lot of memories. We used to have a lot of free ranging chickens on our farm, but they are gone now.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your questions about the deer's antlers-growing them is not a painful process although it seems that they are fairly protective of the antlers while they are in velvet, so it may be painful to hit something with them.
I LOVE these photos! They are SO cute!
