Us Chickens/ Camera Critters

Ain't nobody here but us chickens

"We got things to do. we got eggs to lay
We got ground to dig, and worms to scratch
It takes a lot of sittin', gettin' chicks to hatch
Oh, there ain't nobody here but us chickens...
There ain't nobody here at all"
~ Alex Kramer and Joan Whitney, 1946

  2. they're so cute! We visited a farm recently and I saw the cutest black and white chicks and rooster. Thanks for dropping by to see me. Hope you enjoy the textures.

  3. Too funny. My pic yesterday was a rooster, but the only kind that's allowed in the city -- ceramic! I love your alive chickens in your collage. Chickens seem to have so much confidence and aren't nearly as "flighty" (no pun intended) as those little nervous birds!

  4. Love it! I can still remember when as a kid I'd spend time at Grandma's farm in northern Minnesota (during the summer) and had the chore of collecting eggs and reaching underneath the hens only to get my hands pecked. Great fun!

  16. Cute post! One of our neighbors recently acquired a rooster. I haven't seen him yet, but I can hear him every day--and not just in the morning. The sound seems a little out of place in this wooded suburban neighborhood, but it always makes me smile.

  18. Rose,
They were from one farm, free-range chickens, I suspect. Very free-range. They were actually feeding very close to the road so I talked my husband into stopping so I could take their photos.

  19. Those chickens are so cute. I remember being closer to them when I was little. A brief flash back in memory lane. Thanks!

  20. Too cute! Gives new meaning to the term 'free range' and they're lucky none of them played in the traffic.

  31. An excellent camera critters post that brings back a lot of memories. We used to have a lot of free ranging chickens on our farm, but they are gone now.

In answer to your questions about the deer's antlers-growing them is not a painful process although it seems that they are fairly protective of the antlers while they are in velvet, so it may be painful to hit something with them.
