Porcupine/ Camera Critters

Staring me down

On the way to Port Cunnington, Ontario, my husband stopped the car to avoid hitting this ambling porcupine. My camera begged me to jump out and take a photo. By the time I reached this guy or gal, it had made it to grassy, leafy ground and was determined to stare me down.

Its back is up to make itself look bigger

Nice, Porky!
I got the picture and slowly moved away.

FYI: Tee hee! Yes, I know I typed  EG Woe into McLinky. It should read EG Wow... or Whoa, not Woe. Darn my naughty fingers! :)

  7. that's fantastic--I've only seen them lumbering along the side of the road. They are much bigger than one would expect.

  8. Weren't you the brave one!! Porcupines don't live on Cape Breton. I'll never forget the first time I learned they climbed trees to eat the bark. During the winter, they had stripped this poor tree bare. ~ks

  21. I've seen porcupines only at the zoo, never just by chance like you did, it must be so interesting! Well, this fella looks a bit hissy though... :)

  22. They are an amazing animal. We have a few of them here, but one seldom gets to photograph them. There are more in the elk range, but even there it is difficult to have an encounter such as this.
