Canadian Pacific Railway viaduct over Parry Sound, Ontario
It's hard to miss Parry Sound's 1,695-foot-long train viaduct that traverses the town 106 feet above houses, businesses and the Seguin River.
While I was composing this shot, I heard a noisy rumbling sound so ran to the other side to get a better view...
Canadian National train heading northerly and then westerly towards western Canada
but not fast enough to capture a photo of the engine. Hmmm. It was less than half an hour later that I climbed the nearby lookout tower to miss another engine! See last week's post. Turns out there are normally two trains in quick succession at this time of day every day, then silence for quite a long while. I missed my two chances.

I think it looks like the tracks end here but, trust me, they really do travel on across Canada to British Columbia.

Love that first angle of the trestle. Have always enjoyed a GOOD train and its whistle. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI really, really like these shots. Railroads have a great attraction for some reason...thanks, too, for that last shot which helps to put everything in perspective. What a gorgeous place!
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots, EG. That last one with the train and trestle plunging into????. Pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI seem to miss the engine most of the time too. MB
I missed out on seeing this trestle on my way to Cambridge. I took Highway 6 through the Manitoulin Islands to the Ferry at South Baymouth across to Tobermory then back on the Road through Owen Sound, and onto Guelph and then into Cambridge by way of the 401.
ReplyDeleteI love the angles on these snaps. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteDrats! Timing is everything sometimes! You still showed up some great photos of the CPR Viaduct and trains!
ReplyDeleteThe tracks almost look like a roller coaster taking a dive!
ReplyDeleteThe vantage points for the shots are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI like that photo, even without the engine! The trees surrounding it are lovely, too :D
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, I love the last one. When I was little we could always hear the train whistle far off at night when were would lie in bed. Just thought of that, nice memories. Maybe next time you'll catch the engine! :D
ReplyDeleteThese are such interesting shots to me. I bet the train is noisy if you are right under it.
ReplyDeleteI like so much the different angles in these pictures. How lucky you are, in the moment of your picture a train!Cool! ;)

That last pic is amazing.. the track looks like a roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteLove all your captures, but the last one is really breathtaking, EG! Fantastic! I love trains! My favorite way to travel! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteHey, but that's a bridge! Love that first shot especially.
ReplyDeletealoha,
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful view from the top to see the trestle, glad to see that it is still in use, hopefully you'll get some good engine shots soon!
i have an interesting place to visit today on my sari site
A great selection of shots.
ReplyDeleteSo impressive! Great shots. I hope it will be third time lucky to get your engine.

Fabulous post. I love trains. I went across the country by train this year, but I think I was asleep in my berth when Via Rail went through Parry Sound. So glad I didn't see that roller-coaster section.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your engine picture. In my experience, trains in Canada (except perhaps the commuter trains between Toronto and Montreal) are almost always late.
I love your train pictures. Thanks so much.

These railway viaducts are very impressive but I don't think that living in a house under that viaduct. There's a city in my country which will have such a railway viaduct passing over beautiful houses, the owners of which are very much opposed to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and kind comment! Have a great week.
That's an impressive structure in a beautiful landscape!
ReplyDeleteSeeing the underside of a train is fascinating and fun! Thanks for sharing your quick snap of an important aspect of Canadian life. Trains tie this great country together! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your first picture of the trestle, but all three are wonderful. Hopefully you'll have better luck capturing the engines next time.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive viaduct. I love photos of structures like these!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful viaduct. the last shot is simply impressive.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Until June, I had an apartment two blocks from a busy railroad line. I kind of miss them now.
ReplyDeleteThose are great pictures of an impressive structure, EG - I work on (highway) bridges and know a Colossus when I see one!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. Especially love the second picture.
ReplyDeleteThat really is amazing. Great photos but I am sure the live view is just awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe view from the tower is amazing.
ReplyDeleteFantastic captures. The view from the top is great.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting shot. This railroad looks old and rustic- full of character.
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed at the things that have been built...
ReplyDeletei love the first photo, marvelous angle shot. railroad bridges are very interesting, i wish we have more of them here.
ReplyDeleteI hope no one bungee jumps on that trestle. Have a wonderful work week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view !
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these beautiful photos
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week,
Greetings, Bram
My Word Tuesday post
Seen on My World Tuesday
They seem like they slope way down, yes? I thought trains could only maintain a specific gradient depending on engine capacity before wheel spin sets in.
ReplyDeleteTypical that you miss both trains. THat happens to me when i go out to catch the bus. Mess up the timing each and every time.
I like the last shot very much. Great view!
ReplyDeleteI would love to cross your beautiful country by train.
ReplyDeleteGreat series of shots, I wish to set off on another long journey again.
ReplyDeleteI love the angle in the top shot
ReplyDeletein the last shot the tracks seem to just disappear into the trees - so wonderful!
Love the train shots. The photo overlooking the raised tracks was fascinating and almost disturbing in a way. I'm guessing the neighbors get shaken quite a lot.
ReplyDeleteAdd my voice to the din of admirers, EG. Wonderful captures... never mind the engine.
ReplyDeleteI love Canada and have yet to see this vast country in its entirety. I'd love to travel this rail one day!
ReplyDeleteBetter luck next time. I'd love to see the engine one day if you can catch it!
What a sight. Such a tall bridge.
ReplyDeleteThat last image is gorgeous!
