Elora Mill Inn, Elora Ontario
Towering five storeys above the Grand River in Elora, Ontario stands the Elora Mill Inn, built circa 1840. Until 1972, it operated as a grist mill but it is now an elegant country inn and restaurant. Many of its 32 guest rooms are furnished with antiques or period reproductions, and some offer fireplaces as well.
The inn is situated on the Grand River beside a ramp waterfall along the beautiful Elora Gorge. (A ramp waterfall is where water slips over a steep rock face without losing contact with the rock surface.)
Looking at the inn from the other side of the gorge
A few rooms face the river where guests can view the falls and gorge. A fireside dining room overlooks the falls, which the mill still uses to generate its own electricity.

No, I have never stayed there. But I did enjoy hiking along the paths on the opposite side of the river.

Charming place!
ReplyDeleteit looks beautiful and serene.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place to stay. I love it when old historic buildings are put to good use.

Another addition to my 'bucket list.'
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cozy, warm inn - wish we could stay there!
ReplyDeleteit's a grand old place!
ReplyDeleteI love the geese at the falls
It would be so interesting to see what the rooms look like, and the view over the river, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the mill still in use even with a change of use - sounds a lovely spot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful place! And it does look very serene! I love to stay in places like this. I also love to see old historical buildings being saved and put to good use. Great post for the day and I love your photos -- particularly the geese at the falls!! Hope your week is off to a good start! Enjoy!

It's good to see old mills and such being brought back to life and purpose. I'd love to see inside. Hint hint.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo treatment. Great shots

Wow - magnificent and delightful!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun place to stay!
ReplyDeleteThis does seem like a cozy place to stay loaded with history and charm by scenic beauty. I’ve never seen geese this close to a waterfall before. Pardon the pun but they look a little “on edge”. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an elegant and rustic place! I'd love to go there.
ReplyDeleteTotally charming! I can't believe those geese can stand on the brink of the falls and not get swept over...the security of wings really is unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteGrande effetto questa casa in pietra !
ReplyDeleteMi piace.
Buona girnata :)

Nice views.
ReplyDeleteI just get a weird feeling here.. of an exciting buildning, old.. and a little chilling feelings....(?) The last photo is just fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week! :)
This is a place I would love to stay. Wonderful photos, those geese look like they are having a great time.
ReplyDeleteNice, I like the first picture.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the geese enjoying the falling water. I love to hear them fly over. Their geese talk make me happy.
ReplyDeleteIt is an elegant and interesting place for sure. I'm sure the rooms and the food and the views are splendid, but other than hiking, what would a guest do when staying there?
ReplyDelete(Not counting photography, of course! That's a given!)
By the way Amy and Donnie are both golfers, although she usually serves as his caddie on Sundays. He is an excellent golfer.
Me again re your question on Ocala DP: I recently purchased what I was told was the best point-and-shoot on the market, the Canon S95. It is a fantastic piece of equipment. One option it offers is to shoot with a fisheye effect. That's what I used. Simple. Just turn a dial a couple of clicks.
ReplyDeleteSuper photos of a most unusual place. Imagine turning a grist mill into an inn. Wonderful. I love the fact that they use the waterfall to generate their own electricity!

ReplyDeleteInteresting. I like that they still use the building, even if it is a restaurant.
ReplyDeletebeen past it many times, figured it was just a restaurant, didn't realise you could stay there. Great shots,

I really like old mills and recenly did a post one one myself. Looks like a really neat place.
ReplyDeleteHey! I've been there! That was my world once too... :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a charming old building. I'm glad to read that it's being put to use and being enjoyed as an inn. To many of these wonderful old place are just left to crumble. It's too bad that more aren't preserved in this way.

I'm glad to see this old mill restored and being used. So many along the east coast are left to ruin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place. I am glad that it is still being used even though only as an Inn. But how delightful. MB
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place and fun to photograph!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a wonderful place to stay or at which to enjoy a meal. I've been to a much smaller mill in Tiffin, Ohio that was converted into a restaurant.
ReplyDeleteсимпатично, интересное место
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and interesting place! I love to visit these places online because I know I may never get the chance in person.
