Lake effect snow
It's not officially winter here but it sure looks like it. The weather where I live is often controlled by winds crossing Lake Huron. This time of year when the lake is still unfrozen, snow squalls are common.
On Tuesday we were on a snow squall alert and asked to stay home unless we absolutely needed to go out because squalls can create white-outs with very little visibility.
Map showing squall areas yesterday
On this map East Gwillimbury is approximately 1/3 of the way south of the a in Barrie and the red dot for Toronto.

Beautiful mosaic! I am enjoying your snow shots very much! I think I have mentioned that my husband grew up in Buffalo and he talks a lot about the lake effect snow - especially this time of year. Stay warm and be safe!
ReplyDeleteSo very wonderful! Now it's a time since I was here again.. I don't have so much capasity to visit all in one time.. But here I am.. :)
ReplyDeleteI admire your lovely photos! :) So much snow you've got! More than we have here.. But some snow we have got, too.. :)
Many beautiful photos here since last time I visited you, and the carved tree, wow, such an original! I just love it! :)
Fabulous photos and info, but BRRRRR.
ReplyDeleteThis scares me! I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle all that snow when I move to Toronto. :S I guess it's pretty in a certain way. :)
ReplyDeleteNice collection you put together. And thanks for the explanation of the squalls. The map really helps explain it all!
ReplyDeleteofficially winter? Winter starts when winter starts and it's sure started here! Lovely photos....
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your snow as we have had none in Vancouver since I came back home.
ReplyDeleteA well planned mosaic of interesting images. I keep seeing snow everywhere, so I feel lucky with some cold drizzle!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. We have just about the same kind of scene here but I'm not too happy about it. For once, I'm going to rant big time on VDP tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots! We really haven't had more than a dusting of snow down here in Toronto - haven't had the shovel out yet.
ReplyDeletesqualls are dangerous things. Two nights ago, two French tourist thought our summer was very hot. Went paddling in the lake, caught up in a squall a,d sadly ended their holidays.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about the squalls and possible white-outs, but you got a very nice mosaic of beautiful wintry scenes.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely does look like winter. Gorgeous shots of your snowy world and an interesting post too.

ReplyDeleteAh, a 'snow day' - a free day to do anything you want!!! Loved your collage. ~karen
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your snow days!! It is not officially winter here either but you could have fooled me. We are blanketed in a world of glorious white and, though it is a chilly high of -16 today, I am enjoying it. Have a great weekend from your blogging friend in Edmonton!
