The first week of spring 2011
The robins are back in East Gwillimbury staking out their territories, even though there's still some ice in the creeks. Ice has melted on fast-moving creeks (top three photos), but ponds are still frozen (middle photo on the right). There's very little ice now on or around Lake Ontario (bottom photo on the right).

beautiful collage! don't you just love waking up to all the new signs of spring?!!
ReplyDeleteNicely done, EG. You've shown us in a creative fashion what's happening weather-wise up your way. I like that bottom right photo - seems so incongruous what with people all bundled up playing at the beach!
ReplyDeleteHurray for Spring! Those robins are usually the first to welcome it.
ReplyDeleteThings are warming up! I love the fat robin.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have that robin show up in my garden. Great collage.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Yeah for the Robin! We've heard and seen them while in the woods collecting sap. It's such a good sound when you finally hear and see them after what seems like a long winter.
ReplyDeleteSpring seems to be taking a small vacation this morning.... I'm looking out of the window at SNOW!
ReplyDeleteAh, the Robin knows....
ReplyDeleteRobins--the heralds of Spring---I am glad they are back in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteThey are here year around but swell in numbers at Springtime.
Love the collage--you are so artistic. MB
I know you're jealous because we have lilacs and dogwoods, but I haven't seen a robin yet!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous macro of the robin. Love your collage! Our robins have been around a long time since we hardly had winter here this year.
ReplyDeleteLooking at these images I am convinced that when I return home from my winter stay in the Arizona desert I will see ice on the surrounding rivers and creeks near my woodland home! Perhaps I'm returning too soon!
ReplyDeleteThat still looks like winter to me!
ReplyDeleteThis collage really says spring to me.This is the way things look before the grass starts growing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tribute to the first week of Spring. The collage is beautiful and I like the different states of ice that you've shown around the edges. Hopefully ice will soon be a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteThe robins have been in our neighborhood, too. Love the family by the shore - they look like they are making the best of the day.
ReplyDeleteI love how puffed out the robin looks. I guess it's trying to stay warm. Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteI heard frogs croaking out at the strip pits the other night...a sure sign that spring has sprung...nice photo of the robin. I need to work on getting one. Of all the birds that are around, and fairly friendly, I have not tried very hard to get a photo of one.
ReplyDeletewhat lovely photos, your robin is very handsome!
ReplyDeleteLovely collage, especially the robin.
ReplyDeleteThis winter Des Moines had more robins stick around than a typical year. I didn't even realize anyone was counting, but apparently there is a formal count. Now that spring is here, I just love seeing big, fat robins.
ReplyDeleteRobins rock. Pretty collage, all nice signs of spring.
ReplyDeleteYour collage really shows the gradual transition from winter to spring.
ReplyDeleteO reflexo na água ficou perfeito!
ReplyDeleteStill looks pretty cold, but you can't stop spring now!!
ReplyDeleteYou captured what it is like here in western NY too...but I think it should warm up a bit next week... I have been putting out meal worms and raisins for the poor robins...Michelle
