White-winged scoter, Hamilton, Ontario
Sometimes I'm in the right place at the right time AND I have my camera. This was one of those times. I was trying to get some good photos of long-tailed ducks that were swimming from Lake Ontario into Hamilton Harbour when this male white-winged scoter swam close to me.
He was more hungry (I think) than worried about me, who was standing very still like a statue.
And he found something too! YUM!

Great sighting and photos. They are cool looking birds.
ReplyDeleteIf it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck ... you know the rest. I guess it must be a duck. A variety I've never seen in the waterways around here so I find him most interesting. Nice series of photos.
ReplyDeleteSerendipity! Great captures! I've not heard of scoters. I've heard of scooters, and I think they're just ducky, but they're not the same thing...right?
ReplyDeleteLook at this guy's eye! Looks madder than the Mad Hatter!
These are great photos. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Boonie
I try to stay away from 'critters' myself, but do enjoy the water shots.
ReplyDeleteWhat an odd looking fellow... Nice catch!
ReplyDeleteGreat images. So much fun when they come to you unexpectedly as you are looking for something else.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, I can't wait to see the migrating ducks around here.

ReplyDeleteVery good. I don't think I've seen one before, though I keep hearing about the various ducks we have here, mostly all I ever see are mallards and long-tails.
