Open Wide/Macro Monday

Trumpeter Swan, Lynde Shores Conservation Area, Ontario

Signs at the entrance to this conservation area ask visitors to NOT feed the wildlife, but this trumpeter swan is very tame, suggesting that it is used to hand outs.  This is NOT a smiling swan as I didn't have any food to share with it. Still, it let me take its photo.

  1. I'd hate to get too close to that razor-lined bill!

  2. Wow. That's the first time I've ever seen teeth on a swan. Amazing! Thanks for bringing me the experience.

P.S. I didn't even know swans, ducks, geese, etc. even had teeth! I know, I'm a country girl, but we've never had water fowl.

  22. EG, are you kidding? The only reason people go to Lynde Shores is to feed the birds, squirrels and chipmunks. Next time you go, take some wild bird seed with you. Walk the trails and and hold your hand out with the seed in it and they will come.
