July 27/ Nature Notes

South-central Ontario this week

Like most of eastern North America, the weather here has been sizzling hot. I hope the colours in this mosaic convey that message.

In the largest square you can see this bee is delighted with the pollen it found on this wild mustard (Sinapsis arvensis).  Moving clockwise: a cultivated daylily (Hemerocallis) in my garden,  ant on bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare), red honeysucle berries (Loncera ssp), butternuts (Juglans cineria) and wild perennial sweet peas (Lathyrus latifolius).

Please note that I include the botanical names because they remain the same around the world but the common names vary.

Please visit Michelle at Rambling Woods for more NATURE NOTES.

  1. I so enjoy your Nature Notes montages. Today's is no exception. Stay cool and drink lots of lemonade, EG! Here we have a tropical storm in its third day and it makes our house move slightly inconvenient.

  4. The ant on the thistle is my favorite of this set. There is something about a blooming thistle that makes me happy.

  7. I see so many colors
    Flora beautiful
    Peach and red and yellow
    Even glorious purple
    And there upon the petal
    I see a busy bee
Reminding me I've got to run
    Someone's calling me!

    "Coming dear! Bye."

  16. Every picture is perfect and combined make the perfect mosaic. It's wonderful that you know the scientific names. I love wildflowers, but am lucky if I know the common names. Thank you for the lovely post.
