View from the lookout, Windy Ridge Conservation area
Sunday afternoon, two weeks ago, was such a lovely day that my husband and I decided to explore Windy Ridge Conservation Area east of Peterborough. It was a warmish day (for December in Ontario) but there was a bit of haze.
Fence along part of the ridge
This time of year if the weather is nice, it's important to get out and enjoy it!
As you can see, there was a bit of snow...but not much. The trail was easy to see and in some places where the trail was facing southerly, it was muddy so we had to be careful not to slip.
Icicles on the picnic shelter
Icicles melted in the sun too.
Bluebird house
Grass poked up through the snow and several birdhouses seen from the trail were already eagerly awaiting spring. (And winter hasn't officially arrived yet!)
Wild apples still on the trees
Hungry deer will be glad to find these apples still on the trees.

Those wild apples, still on the trees, are an important food source for deer, among many other animals of lesser stature.
ReplyDeleteThat touch of snow looks much like it does here.Hope your day goes well.
ReplyDeleteA lovely trip you and your husband had! So beautiful to see your pictures! :) But now I see there is not much snow, but.. better than nothing..:) Wild apples, so nice! and yes, good for the deers and maybe some birds.. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fine setting for an afternoon outside. I can almost feel the cool but fresh air.

ReplyDeleteThe top photo is an especially majestic view of nature!
ReplyDeleteThese are all lovely but I am partial to the first one and the one of the icicles! Wonderful!
ReplyDeletenice to see the sun in these photos as it looks wintry enough! :)
ReplyDeleteThe apples make such nice decorations on the tree and I like how the ice wraps itself around the edges like cold dripping hands. Wildlife must so appreciate discovering both the apples and the birdhouse this time of year. :)
ReplyDeleteI simply love the curly icicles on the shelter's eave! A BIG thank-you for this snapshotty, "smitch of the white stuff" looksee from me in a snowless Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Looks like a very cool place on a relatively warm day. Don't think I'd want to be out there on a cold and windy day!
ReplyDeleteI suppose the birds and other critters love the wild apples!
