Green heron pose #1
Looking at the heron from this direction you are probably wondering why this is called a GREEN heron when it looks so rusty coloured. This bird's back is greenish...but it wouldn't turn around to show you.
Green heron pose #2
Here's another view but still not showing its back. Maybe next time.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
Beautiful portraits of this adorable heron!
ReplyDeleteLéia
I like its fuzzy rusty parts :)
ReplyDeletecontrasts to its serious face
Yes, I was wondering about the green in the name. I like that long pointy beak.
ReplyDeleteDarla
I have only seen 2 of these little green herons before. they are amazing birds. i saw one sitting on the rope that tied a boat at the yacht club, he was diving and fishing off the rope. no, i don't have a boat, i was at the library in front of the club
ReplyDeleteThat beak is good for fishin'.
ReplyDeleteHa, I always wondered why it was called that...I just never researched it to find out. Great shots of him.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture! He looks you quite defiantly in the eye, "What me, turn?". ;-)
ReplyDeleteHe may not look green from this angle, but he still looks real good.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Camera girl and I think your camera loves you, and you it! Richard from the Amish community of Lebanon,pa
ReplyDeleteHow lucky of you to capture an odd looking bird that seems to be enjoying the lens :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I hope we could follow each other! Take care :D
Great captures. I didn't know there were green herons.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird, such an intense stare. I don't think I've seen one of these before.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely captures - I've seen only a few of these in our area, they really have a lovely green colour, especially when they fly by at eye level!
ReplyDeletethey are so blue on their backs but i guess blue heron was taken. :)
ReplyDeleteDid you speak forcefully when you said "Turn around!" Herons won't do anything unless they know you're serious. They also don't do anything for shutterbugs who bug them.
ReplyDeleteCute, though. Look at those claws! Remind me of the hands of one of my elementary school teachers! ;-)
i really have to admire the sites of photographers. Have you seen my pics? Some have turned out pretty good, but I just consider them 'Luck!'
ReplyDeleteSuch cool shots!
ReplyDeleteA very good looking bird, but then most birds are!
ReplyDeleteThe name does seem wrong, handsome chap though!
ReplyDeleteNice capture of a beauty. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThanks Camera girl I am now convinced that is what I seen down by the swamp this morning about 7am. Now I do not have to wonder. Great shots they are beautiful birds. B
ReplyDeleteThose a great pic of a great bird. We do not have those where I live. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThere is one who has lived in the pond in Wychwood most years but I haven't seen him yet this year. Super shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, - lovely to see. A perfect bird post!
ReplyDeleteNice catch!!! They are so tricky to spot. I thought the same thing when I first saw one....where's the green? It should be called the Mint Chocolate Heron:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! What a handsome looking bird.
ReplyDeleteYellow eyes, green back, quite the colorful bird. Beautiful capture!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the heron. I often wonder why birds are named after a color which is not easily seen on them!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of this interesting bird! Love how the red seems to be like fluff hanging from its neck!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! Awesome shots! Those long toes are so cool!
ReplyDeleteYep, I was wondering why it isn't called a Red Heron until I read your post. Darling little guy!
ReplyDeletethat bird was totally posing.
ReplyDelete(great shots -- love the garden post. sigh.)
Very good capture!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen one, so I don't mind not seeing the green this time. Fun to see a new species to me!
ReplyDeleteyour comment made me chuckle. thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteEither side is great to see! :)
ReplyDeleteSplendid shots!
ReplyDeleteAnd always thought herons were bigger. My friend's pottery business is called Blue Heron.
ReplyDeleteNow I have mostly seen the back view, as the heron is leaving...
ReplyDeleteNice shots of the Green Heron Camera Girl! They are such cool birds! Love those feet!
ReplyDeleteYour photos clearly show the bill, legs and feet, and those fierce looking eyes!
ReplyDeleteAnd it does look like it is posing for you!
ReplyDeleteHandsome.
ReplyDeleteNice 'Rusty' Red bird find, Ms. EG. Best wishes with the 'Wild Bird' group.

I like herons - I always feel that I have seen "something" if I find a heron.
ReplyDeleteNice shot of the buff breasted version - that is what it’s really called!
Stewart M – Australia
PS: sorry about the lack of thumbnails this week – will get it right for WBW #3
He's a beauty EG at least he was considerate enough to pose for this lovely portrait!
ReplyDeleteHe probably thinks this is his best side. Now if it were me, he would have turned around instead of giving me a shot like these. I'm usually mooned by birds and other critters alike. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat captures of this impressive bird!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I don't think I've seen before. We have plenty of herons around here, but not this type. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHe's just lovely! The first time I saw one, I was so surprised at his silhouette, normally noticing the long-legged more graceful herons and egrets. But, I came to just love him!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are having an "adventure" discovering Tucson...but this isn't the first time we lived here. Back in the late 70s when our daughter was very small, we were stationed here and lived on the East side. My hubby was gone a lot, and because of the heat I mainly stayed close to home. We had a beautiful back yard (I will post some pics when I get my scanner hooked to the new computer in a few months--its on layaway, the computer, not the scanner!) Plus, I didn't have a decent camera. When we had a hummingbird nest right outside out back glass door, I got some AWFUL pictures! :-) Life is just very different now.
What a lovely Heron. Great captures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking Heron!!!
ReplyDeletenice shot of this gorgeous fellow. :)
