Double-crested cormorant
This afternoon, driving home from an emergency visit to a sick relative in Upstate New York, my husband and spied these cormorants in a tree next to the harbour in Hamilton, Ontario. Truth be told, it's amazingly easy to take photos of cormorants there.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
these are great shots. i hope your relative will be okay...
ReplyDeleteThey're a nice bird, but I think you mean Double-crested Cormorant.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the cormorant. I hope all is well with your relative. Thanks for sharing, have a great day.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness - that is a different looking guy. no offense. great capture!!!
ReplyDeleteOh great catch..I have only see one once..love their feet...Michelle
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots!
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see! Glad you stopped the car! :) And I can see it's having great feet! =)
ReplyDeleteNice photos of the Cormorant. I wonder if the ones you have over there have beautiful blue eyes like ours here.
ReplyDeleteI hope your relative is OK - these are both terrific, I love seeing cormorants in action (though *definitely* not easy for me to get a great capture :)
ReplyDeleteNow I need a lesson on birds. I know very little yet they live so close by.
ReplyDeleteIt might have been easy to photograph them but it took some skill to get the photos that you did.
ReplyDeletePaul,
ReplyDeleteThanks! WHAT was I thinking??? :))
Great shots of the cormorant. All my photos of them are when they are perched on rocks in the water.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of this bird!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the cormorant. I really like the second one. Great details of his feathers.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures.
ReplyDeleteI see he has webbed feet.
ReplyDeletenice looking bird!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I like the second one. That's a great perch!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots up close. Love cormorants. They pose so nice:) Keep them coming:)
ReplyDeleteNice pictures you show.
ReplyDeleteWish you a good day :)
What's the difference between a cormorant and an anhinga? We have both here but they look the same to me.
ReplyDeleteNice shots. That ol' zoom lens is working well!
Impressive bird and photos.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely birds! Great photos! Sure hope your relative is doing better.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! There are cormorants listed in my Birds of Illinois book, but I have never seen one. Hopefully I will one day, when my camera is in hand, of course.
ReplyDeleteOh these are great.
ReplyDeleteI photographed one from afar this past spring, and wished I could get as close as you have;')~
Hope your emergency had a good ending ... I love the Cormorants. They are so awkward out of water and so impressive in the water. Great pictures, as usual.

Cormorants are one of my favorite birds to capture with my camera...their eyes are beautiful jewels and they can often be found just sitting on rocks or branches drying out their wings. Great shots.
ReplyDeletewonderful shots of them, i think they are a little brighter in color than ours here.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Double-crested Cormorant Camera Girl! Love that second photo showing those big feet!
ReplyDeleteIt may have been easy to get pictures of cormorants in Hamilton, but you got some great ones.
ReplyDeleteFishermen are not fond of cormorants but I kinda like their prehistoric appearance, captured so well in your photos.
ReplyDeleteWe saw some cormorants in North York a couple of weeks ago! Always surprising to see "nature" in the city. We also saw kingfishers or some such thing (there was a birder who randomly chose us to explain this to, or I wouldn't have known).
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a Cormorant. What an interesting bird.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a cormorant before.it seems like this bird looks truly wonderful!I sooooooo love the 2nd photo!
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos of the cormorant!
ReplyDeleteWe have it here in Sweden too, but it's not so popular because of its droppings that kills the trees they are sitting in.
Greetings Pia
Looks like they were paid to pose for you.
