Bonaparte's gull, landing
Until I started birding, I had no idea how many different varieties of gulls there are right here in Ontario. This gull is nothing like the noisy, bossy ring-billed gulls most commonly found along the shore of Lake Ontario. Usually these gulls are well mannered and quiet unless they spy a yummy school of fish.
Landed
Bonaparte's gulls are now migrating southward to the Atlantic coast. If
the winter is mild, however, some will remain on the north side of Lakes
Ontario and Erie.

I love the stop-action in that first shot, but all of them are wonderful, as always. We have a plethora of gulls and Canada geese, and although some of them have gone south, many do stick around. It's always fun to go looking for them (and feeding them) when we get a big dump of 18 inches or more.

They are also more attractive than the ones around Lake Michigan.
