Nature Notes

Early February

Largest square: juvenile snowy owl atop a spruce tree. Snowy owls are still here but will leave soon for the Arctic to breed.

Moving clockwise: a female cardinal on a spruce branch, frost and snow on dried milkweed pods, sun going down during a snow squall, ice crystals on ice and ice and slowing water in a local stream.

  4. Beautiful snow owl. I've never seen one. They don't usually come this far south, but my daughter said they have seen one at their farm in SW Minnesota.
