X/Alphabe-Thursday

At the border between the U.S. and Canada

X here means do not use this lane as it is closed.  No, the open lanes do NOT have Os over them, sort of like the Xs and Os at the ends of love letters.

I just knew you were gonna ask, so I'm gonna tell you. If the lane is open, the X is turned off and the big box above lights up with words such as "buses only", "cars only",  "trucks only"...you get the picture.

One line through something in the circle means no

Since an X has two lines, does that mean it's an even stronger NO?

Gate leading to private beach on lake Ontario

I can take a hint. Well, it was a steep stairway down so I didn't want to go through the gate anyway.  :)

  1. Reminds me of the oldie "Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs..."

  2. Some places are not welcoming you with open arms. Only because they don't know you. No trespassing now, you hear?

  3. "X" absolutely mark(s) the spot(s)!

  4. The traffic lanes at the various bridges in the Bay Area just use red and green lights like ordinary stop lights. I like that gate even though the message is "stay out".

  5. never thought about the question of the x being a stronger no, maybe they should put and x instead of a slash. as for that beautiful gate, if i see a gate like this with no sign i would never consider going through it, but when i see one that says private or keep out i WANT to go through it just to say i did

  6. That is a cute gate and I would have been tempted to go through it. But I wouldn't have.

  9. Oh, I'd be so tempted to open that gate. Must be nice to have a private beach area. :)

  10. That is interesting to me. We have only crossed the border at very small stations and there were no lanes and no lines to wait in. I love traveling in Canada. I only wish we could do it more often.

  12. You Canadians can be so confusing at times. X or O ... sounds like a computer program.

Doesn't look like there is much of a beach beyond that gate. Maybe a hurricane blew it away like they do in Florida?

BTW, saw another Ontario car heading north. "Kinda late, going home?" I yelled at the driver.

    Nah, I didn't do that.

  13. I've seen lights such as those, in Seattle, I believe. This was an incredibly clever post. I haven't done an alphabet meme, but you make it look fun!

  16. That's a pretty little gate, but kind of a shame you couldn't explore the beach beyond.
I'm glad you explained the cryptic sign at the border. Who knows, I might actually be there trying to figure it out one day.

  17. X to dla mnie niewiadoma. Kusi mnie furtka na plażę, szkoda, ze prywatną. Pozdrawiam.
X is for me unknown. I'm tempted gate to the beach, I wish to private. Yours.

  29. You've found some good traffic control X's, Ms. T.G. The round international 'NO' sign seemed to be jumping around for me. Does it for you?

  32. Enjoyed your post♫ Yes, the X is a stronger message...the O crossed through is a softer message. Love your eXamples!! My X: http://lmkazmierczak.blogspot.com/2013/05/exclamations.html

  33. Oh, to have a private beach - but really that approach is far too steep;-)

  34. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a private beach...

  35. I never thought that the opposite of the X is an O, and why they don't use that symbol... I guess I am not quite as warped as I thought...

  39. It's been a couple of years since I crossed that border... My sis has been coming to see me, but when my parents were alive and living in Canada, it was us making the trip up there.

  40. The only problem with going down those private stairs is having to come back up them again.

  41. I've always loved the form of taking pictures of letters. You've taken it to a new level. Beautiful.

  42. From what I understand, there will be more big X's at the border crossing with the US cutbacks. I'll bring my knitting with me for the wait!

  44. I love your philosophy on two lines through the circle.

I've never thought about 'no' in that way before!

This was really an x-cellent link for the letter "X".

    A++++
