Back side of Balls Mill in the middle of a paint job
I LOVE it when my husband and I are searching for something and something else wonderful pops into view! We were looking for a conservation area (we found it) but on our way we happened upon an old mill in the midst of being renovated.
Fence behind heritage mill in Baltimore, Ontario
Front side of mill
In its latter days of operation, this mill was indeed a flour mill.
Built in 1842
But in it's earliest days it was a carding (to make yarn) and saw mill.
The original clapboard, painted white
Apparently the building has also housed a cooper's shop but has also been used for storage.
A peek through one window but mostly reflection
I hope I get to go inside one day to see what's there!

ReplyDeletea beautiful old building, this is the kind of building I like to see... and would love to go in it. will it be open to the public? or did someone buy it to live in maybe? the window shot is my favorite today. i like what is sitting in the window to.
ReplyDeleteI too love to photograph windows and not just for the reflections they hold.
ReplyDeleteHi What a wonderful find and such great shots you got of it.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful that it wasn't let to go to ruin. Looks like some old bottles and jars in that window. I'll bet it turns out to be an antique shop!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great discovery! It's nice that it's being cared for and restored.
ReplyDeletewhat a great place!
ReplyDelete@Shammickite - this is actually near Cobourg. I remember Andy showing a picture of this place and I also thought Ball's Falls - confusing with that 'Hamilton' also there :)
ReplyDeleteYou got some great shots here. Maybe when it is all reno'd you can get inside.
What a marvelous find, wonderful photos. That fence post with the gate was intriguing. Beautiful old place and a fun one to explore I bet.
ReplyDeleteI was in Baltimore, Maryland the other week. Interesting to know there is one in Ontario too.

ReplyDeleteThe 'Belle of Baltimore' has had quite a history EG, you certainly did find a treasure for us here!
ReplyDeleteI love when this happens too, and what a find this was.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the photograph of the window. Just perfect!
It was a serendipitous moment catching the mill … and it is nice to see buildings serving different purposes over the years and maintained rather than being destroyed.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great old building! It sure has been around a long time and has seen a lot of uses over the decades. I'm glad they keep it in repair. I didn't know there was a Baltimore in Ontario.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool building! We love finding places like that, too. We have a favorite mill in the Smoky Mountains that we visit every time we are nearby. We always bring home some flour, too.
ReplyDeleteGee! This must have been the week for old mills and mill houses. I'm glad there are people interested in preserving them. They add a lot of local color to our communities.
ReplyDeleteVery neat mill and post. I enjoyed the photos, interesting that there is a Baltimore in Ontario. Thanks for sharing, have a happy week!

ReplyDeleteCool historical site and named Baltimore. Love the shots especially the last one.
ReplyDeletewonderful find...the weathered walls add to its character. but it's great it's being repainted. old mills around here look so different.:p
ReplyDeleteYour linky photo caught my eye because I live outside Baltimore, Maryland. Didn't realize there was a Baltimore, Ontario. Think it gets its name from the same Lord Baltimore in England?
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you do get to get inside...but have loved seeing the outside, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really neat old place.
