Green Heron/Wild Bird

Green Heron (Butorides virescens) neck outstretched

Late on Saturday afternoon a green heron flew into a local marsh to hunt for fish. Notice the focused look on the heron's face. In this position it caught several water spiders. Appetisers.

In a sunnier spot

Then it moved to a new spot.

Plop!

Feet still hanging on to the log, it bent head first and...

YUM!

it came up with a satisfying meal.

  7. These heron are so much fun to watch when they're fishing! In that first shot, it's hard to know where the branches end and the heron begins.

    Super shots!

  8. There is something so elegant looking about a Heron on the one hand and then a sort of cartoon feeling on the other. I like them a lot.

  21. Sorry I didn't know mum was logged in so I had deleted her comment and then logged in as me. That big fish should keep the Heron going for a while, they are such good hunters. From Findlay
