Mid September
It's feeling and looking a lot like early autumn now. A few butterflies are still searching for nectar but many wildflowers have withered and dried up. Many late-summer bloomers such as Queen Anne's lace, goldenrod and asters are all hanging in there.
Largest square: Viceroy and I'm not sure what the other butterfly is. Do you know? (A friend tells me the butterfly is a red-spotted purple.)
Moving clockwise: adult trumpeter swan with two juveniles; Jerusalem artichoke blossom; clouded supphur (I think) on wild aster; dried seed heads of bull thistle (seeds have nearly totally blown away), and blossoms of wild aster.
