Late October

Jacket weather

Our weather had been warmer than usual until last week. Now we are wearing jackets. As you can see in the largest square, some fishers  are also wearing hats and mittens. Brrr.

Moving clockwise: goldfinches are chowing down, this one is eating Echinacea seeds;  cleaned-out sunflower seed heads (at sunset) show that blue jays and chickadees have been enjoying one of their favourite foods; leaves are falling from the trees; monarchs are migrating south but still finding clover nectar on their way; and canoes are still out but will soon be put away till next spring.

Another view of the sunflower at sunset

  2. This is a superb post…you've really captured well the "end of October." Love the boat and ducks and the collage is perfect! But the final shot really does say it all…showing the warmth that is fading away!

  10. Brrrr. It's definitely colder here too. Love the sunflower photo and the mosaic. I've never seen finches eating my coneflower heads. I know they like them but I just never see it happen. ;)

  14. Hi Michelle Lovely to see the last of birds and plants before it gets very cold. I think most people have had an extended autumn thus making the winter shorter, I hope!

  27. I was originally from New Hampshire, so I do remember the cold weather. Now, I am a weather wimp living in Florida. However, Fall is beautiful in the North country.

We've been warm, too, but that's all going to end in the next 24 hrs. Snow is in the forecast! It won't stay, but still, seems early.
