Male Northern Pintail (Anas acuta)
Wild ducks are on the move and Sunday afternoon I was fortunate enough to see this drake swimming amongst the reeds in a marsh I like to visit. In the past, I have seen them in early spring swimming in ponds and marshes before all the ice has melted, but this was the first time I'd seen one in fall.
Pintail, his wonky reflection, and reflection of water-depth marker
Many ducks are less handsome in fall than they are during the breeding season, but this species maintains their good looks throughout the year.
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

I particularly like the last photo. What a lovely surprise to have you call by and comment on the Book Review Blog, appreciated. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are a beautiful duck and so is your picture. I had some on my blog recently but I could never get so close, they are just too wild.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are stunning. What a thrill to capture this wonderful Pintail with your camera. Well done.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot of the pintails EG, love the watery reflections.. when they haven't got their derrieres in the air they're very elegant gliding across the water :)
ReplyDeleteAh, to be a duck, to swim freely and leisurely in cool, wavy waters, floating along, as life goes by.
ReplyDeletePretty shots!

One good-looking Drake. MB
ReplyDeleteHe's a handsome fellow and that rippling water in the first shot shows him off well.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot!
they are such graceful things!
ReplyDeleteHe is such a handsome fellow! I have never seen one in real life.
ReplyDeleteI ran through the strip pits last night...I do not know what has happened out there but there is hardly any wild life showing. I did not see one single short-eared owl. No deer. One pheasant, and a couple Northern Harriers. A handful of geese and some coots...it is a mystery.
I liked that rippily reflection and also the word wonky.. LOL
ReplyDeleteFortunate indeed! I've never seen one and I think they are beautiful. Your photos show how handsome these ducks are.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very regal and beautiful duck and they have arrived back in Northern Ireland for the winter.
ReplyDeleteNice photos. Love the blueness of the water and the great reflections.
ReplyDeleteThis duck is not that colourful, but I absolutely love them. They have such sophisticated look to them.
ReplyDeleteI've seen them down on the lakeshore in the spring and always like watching them. Nice to see them in their fall 'coat'.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - beautiful duck and reflections.

ReplyDeleteHow nice. I love the ripples and the duck sitting in them. This image is so clear and amazing, it almost looks posed. Nice job.
