Hairy Woodpecker

 Male hairy woodpecker (Picoides villosus)

As you can see here, this cute guy likes peanuts.   He also has a passion for suet and sunflower seeds.

Hammering a peanut shell to get the nut out

They usually forage along tree trunks and branches, but here someone has placed peanuts in the shell on a tree stump.

Wondering if he heard something click - a shutter perhaps?

I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

  10. Was it you who put the peanuts there? Great-looking bird but I've found woodpeckers of any variety to be kinda pesky! Love that first photo!

  20. Perhaps it mistook the shutter for a peanut being cracked open by a competitor?! Whatever the case may be, I'm glad he let himself be photographed!

  29. Great characterful shots. We always feel very deprived here in the UK where we only have 3 types of woodpecker - and one of those is almost impossible to see.
