'Sailboats" by Peter Macon
I have seen this sculpture next to the harbour in Rochester, New York many times, but the day I took these photos I was struck by the beautiful sunlight on the sailboats' sails.
Rochester - on the south side of Lake Ontario - was once an important port for commercial traffic. Now in summer it's a busy playground for smaller boats.
Same sculpture, the photo taken from across the harbour
Isn't it amazing how different the sculpture looks from the opposite side of the harbour?

Yes... light makes all the difference. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI think what's even more amazing is that your skies are blue. ;-)
ReplyDeletea beautiful, albeit a cold looking day.
ReplyDeleteFascinating sculptures !
ReplyDeleteIt is a graceful sculpture. You really did get the best light in the first pic.
ReplyDeleteOne would hardly believe it is the same sculpture; the play of light, and how you captured it, made all the difference!
ReplyDeleteOh, I like this very much. It's not only physically attractive but the way it's done leaves the viewer with a sense of movement/motion. Nice shots, too!
ReplyDeleteIt is a striking and lovely sculpure. You capture it well.
ReplyDeleteLike the sculpture from both sides. Your pictures are so clear.

ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful with that light, you caught it perfectly - striking no matter which image!
ReplyDeleteit looks like two different sculptures... i like both but i think I am leaning towards the second one... it is a truly beautiful sculpture.. i love the sails.
ReplyDeleteThe different coloured sails totally change the look of the sculpture. I like the varied tones that show up in the first photo. It looks like a very old sailing ship.
ReplyDeleteLove sculptures and the blue sky is awesome ~ Wonderful photography!
ReplyDeletethis but, sometimes we need a reminder.

ReplyDeletevery pretty creation.
ReplyDeleteI thought at first glance that they were 2 different sculptures. Love the light on the first one! Great capture.
ReplyDeleteI like this one, EG! Amazing how the different lighting changes the piece.
ReplyDeleteCool piece. I like it. I could see smaller versions being made and having them in your home.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice sculpture for this spot.
ReplyDeleteThe light sure makes a difference in the way it looks.
I love the sailboat sculptures. I used to have a sailboat and miss sailing although at this point in my life I'd be too chicken for some of the close sailing calls I had (unexpected major storms etc.).
ReplyDeleteNice sculpture! You've captured it well.
ReplyDeleteGosh, the difference is amazing! Nice illustration of how to take advantage of light. Love that sculpture.
ReplyDeleteYou captured it well from all angles.
ReplyDeleteIt is a surprising sculpture that I cannot but like (anything with sails will do for me!)
ReplyDeleteI would never have guessed that the second picture was the same sculpture. The light makes all the difference.

ReplyDeleteWe stayed at the tower for a week or so. It was a volunteer thing. we learned the mountains and how to read the fire wheel but we were not really working but helpers so it was a nice time. MB
You were so in the right place at the right time.
ReplyDeleteI really like this one.

ReplyDeleteit is a beautiful sculpture. the artist has captured the action of the wind and the light very nicely.
ReplyDeleteIt is surprising how different the sculpture looks from the two directions. Your first photo is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe picture does look very different from the other side. I think the light had a deal to do with it. Wonderful shot

ReplyDeleteNothing to add to the above except that I like it too!
