Downy Woodpecker

Downies are amongst my most favourite birds and frequent visitors to our suet feeders.

Notice the orangy-red on her tail feathers

  10. What a sweet-looking little bird. I like that splash of orange, too. We have red-headed woodpeckers here but I have not an orange-tailed woodpecker anywhere! :)

  18. She's a sweetie. My parents have a pair that visit their suet feeders and they are quite tame - almost like chickadees.

  19. I've had two pairs around here most of the winter. I hadn't noticed the orange on the females tail feathers though. Sweet photos CG.

  32. We have Downeys here too. They love the suet feeders. We have the Hairy Woodpecker and I was going to post the sameness and the differences today but got sidetracked. They are the sweetest bird aren't they. MB
