Victoria Day Weekend

It's a three-day weekend in Ontario!

Today is Victoria Day, the day we here officially remember Queen Victoria.  As you can see, a few trees are leafing out, but this holiday weekend has been quite cool. Traditionally many gardeners in central Ontario celebrate Queen Victoria's remembrance by planting annuals in their gardens. But NOT this year! At least for me! It's still too cold.

 Hellebore in my garden

Hellebores are perennials, though, so they are OK with this year's cooler weather .

  12. I noticed that also coming across the country that the trees had not begun to leaf out yet here back home Spring is in full swing. Not familiar with Hellebore but then I don't know my plants all that well either.

  14. Your hellebores are gorgeous! I've never planted them and guess I've never seen them at the nursery either. At least it's sunny there. I wouldn't rush getting annuals out yet either. Enjoy your day.

  28. I hope you had a good Victoria Day. In New England, I have always thought that the time for planting annuals is May 15, so I assume that this is close to the right time up where you are. I didn't get back to New England until last night, so today was spent trying to catch up with the first plantings.
