Residential street, Port Perry
This may not look strange to you, but the guard rail in the middle of a residential street seems very different to me. The street runs parallel to Lake Scugog. On the left side of the photo, cars drive toward where I was standing (a dead end). To go back down the street, they go to the right and up over the hill.
I am linking to Good Fences HERE.
I'm guessing officials were concerned that the stone retaining wall wasn't enough to retain cars.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that it does look a bit odd.
ReplyDeleteRoad engineers. Aren't they wonderful?
ReplyDeletePS: The next time you are in Port Perry checkout the new business on the corner of Mary St. and Perry St. It used to be the local LCBO store.
Double fenced!! whatever the meaning!
ReplyDeleteLooks a bit strange. Maybe the idea is to protect the stone wall. Interesting. Looks like a beautiful neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with revrunner and roan on this one.
ReplyDeleteseems a bit overkill!
ReplyDeleteGuardrails usually guard against something. I with the others on keeping the retaining wall safe.
ReplyDeleteHmm..guess they needed a guard rail to protect the stone wall. seems a bit much, but you know..we are a world of crazy drivers sometimes.
ReplyDeleteit is strange but it makes a great photo op
ReplyDeleteWonder if there previously had been an accident or something. Odd placement of guard rail but great photo op.
ReplyDeleteDarla
no center stripe needed! wow!
ReplyDeleteI agree. It seems odd (and not so attractive). I wonder why the guard rail is necessary.
ReplyDeleteJust another example of your tax dollars working in mysterious ways.
ReplyDeleteStrange for sure, EG!
ReplyDeleteSomeone probably had an accident there once and now it's considered "dangerous". It does make for an interesting photo though!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting, it made for a wonderful image!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it was determined to be cheaper to build the road over the than to bulldoze the hill. And because it's so close to the alternate direction they put up a safety rail?
ReplyDeleteIt does seem odd.
ReplyDeleteYou know, come to think of it, I can only thing of one residentual area that I have seen that has a guard rail...and that is down home. I had not thought how odd it is.
ReplyDeleteWith what they are doing here, I'm used to the strangest street furniture now...
ReplyDeleteAn unusual type of fence, but it does do the job! Very creative.
ReplyDeleteVery different! But something bad may have happened there before.
ReplyDeleteOh I see. Looks like two different streets until explained.
ReplyDeleteI would guess that an accident occurred, at some point, that prompted the guard rail.
ReplyDeleteOh, I DO agree with others that there must have been an accident there. Surely the guard rail must let the drivers know the width of the road, maybe p;)
ReplyDeleteSending you lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
I like that stone wall.
ReplyDeleteDouble protection must be needed in that spot. But, I also thought the stone wall is more for retaining the hillside.. Great capture for your fence post.
ReplyDeleteI sort of wonder what the road looked like 75 years ago...
ReplyDeletethanks again, camera girl!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, and all the angles make a great photo.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem a bit different. MB

ReplyDeleteVisually, I like how it's sandwiched between two old stone walls.

Nice find! I guess they didn't want to have to replace that stonework on the retaining wall should a car veer off the street.
ReplyDeleteUnique!
ReplyDeletePersonally I think they look very artistic together and if they serve a purpose at the same time, you can't go wrong. Interesting to say the least ...
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
is there a saying somewhere that states 'two fences are better than one' ?
ReplyDeleteIt may look odd, but definitely looks necessary! Personally, I think I'd like it a little taller, for those slippery, wintry months.

On that road, I'm thinking two is better than none - yikes. Nice shot!
ReplyDeleteThat does seem a bit odd and inefficient.
