Eastern Black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) view 1
This butterfly is also known as the American Swallowtail or Parsnip Swallowtail. I was pleased to see this swallowtail fluttering between wildflowers in a conservation area as I have not seen a lot of butterflies this year.

I love butterflies are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful butterfly and humming this. I greet you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen too many either, EG.
ReplyDeleteI don't see many butterflies at all unless I go to a lake somewhere. I used to see more around here. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteThe stance (if that's what it's called) of the butterfly is perfect as it perches on the blossom. That and the contrasting colors make a perfect photo.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots..glad you finally saw some!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteI love butterflies ! Your shots are so wonderful !
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend :)

Whoa! Stunning!
ReplyDeletewe have 3 just like this in the back yard all week, they are doing the mating thing, and not sure how it works out with three... but they are flying like they are drunk and almost hitting us when we are outside... 3 like these and 2 of the big yellow and black ones.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are awesome. What a wonderful butterfly.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen many butterflies either. I wonder if it is an effect of the drought we are in.
ReplyDeleteA stunning creature!
ReplyDeleteThese are great. I never seem to see butterflies around here either. There are lots of dragonflies though!
ReplyDeleteThey are so wonderful to see, for now! They'll be gone so soon.

I have had a Black Swallowtail caterpillar on my roof garden for the last week. It has been munching away on dill and then last night had moved over to the mint. I'm wondering if it will become a butterfly this year or hibernate until the spring. It is quite an attractive caterpillar.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy for you to be able to capture this beauty♡♡♡ Great photographs, EG.

A perfect combination with that colourful flower!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos CameraGirl! We have had lots of butterflies but some are looking tattered now.
ReplyDeleteI took photos of a black swallowtail last week but every one was of his wings flat out and they weren't nearly as pretty as these. Nor was the flower he was on very pretty! So needless to say I am envious of your pics!
ReplyDeletegreat shots of the butterflies.
ReplyDeleteHi Camera Girl!:) I thought I had already commented on your post, but now I see I didn't. Sorry!! It's a beautiful butterfly, and you photographed it really well.
