Great Blue Heron (GBH)
GBHs are stately birds, don't you think?
Is this GBH laughing?
Bwahaha! Sometimes dignified looking but not always, as this GBH seems to be demonstrating.
Waiting for a tasty fish to swim by
But they do know how to maintain their focus, standing motionless for long periods...
Stretching it's wing
although sometimes they need to change direction and even stretch.
I am linking to Saturday Critters HERE.
It won't be long until these beautiful birds are gone for the season.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, these magnificent birds seem to live everywhere I have lived. I like the laughing photos.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say, have they taken up residence so far north?
ReplyDeleteNice portraits of the Great Blue! I cannot resist the temptation to photograph them, however common they are here in Florida.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked them. They have such intense focus while fishing.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a delight to find one standing down at the pond. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteFabulous pictures!
ReplyDeletehe is laughing and I love it. that stretched wings is amazing
ReplyDeleteReally neat picture of him stretching. Herons are like dancers, they always look good no matter what position they're in.
ReplyDeleteI have always liked watching the Herons. We have them all year round but they are usually skittish. When they see my camera zoom off they go. You got some nice pics. MB
ReplyDeletelove these pterodactyls!
ReplyDeleteThe life of a Heron.

ReplyDeleteOUCH!

ReplyDeleteWhenever you see herons in photographs they always look a bit scruffier than you imagine them to be. These are some excellent shots.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Your heron pictures are just perfect and perfectly beautiful and sharp. That last pose is super!!! He posed many ways for you. They are a truly amazing birds to see, they are so tall and their necks are so long! Even in flight they are gorgeous in their speed and beauty.
ReplyDeleteThey will soon head south and I haven't even been out and about to see them yet! ;-(
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures my friend.
ReplyDeletePS. Dry humor - 'Provincial Bird' is more appropriate? :) 1.5 years in Ontario have spoiled me :) :)
