Sunday afternoon five Trumpeter Swans flew into Whitby Harbour with great fanfare!
Mute Swans swimming amongst the ice floes, Bond Head
In contrast, Mute Swans - as their name suggests - are very quiet.
I am linking to Saturday Critters HERE.
FYI City Daily Photo bloggers: The February 1st theme - If you had to leave forever the city from where you usually post, what would you miss most?
Nice shots. Winter survival must be tough for these guys.

ReplyDeleteHello EG, lovely shots of the swans... It is amazing they can stand the cold water..I guess they are lucky it is not completely frozen..Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSwans make such lovely refelections... can't believe all that ice EG, so appealing to me right now :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always fascinated by swans perhaps because they are very rare in Texas. Small numbers of mute swans do exist here but there were introduced to the environment, I believe as a deterrent for Canada geese.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are beautiful. Having the mallards in the shots just reinforces how much bigger they are.

ReplyDeleteSecond, can you tell me which swan the ones in my Time Stand Still photo are...I know they are NOT mute, but I have never known if the others we see here are Trumpeter or Tundra swans. I suppose they are Tundra swans after looking at their range at All About Birds.
