Sunderland Town Hall
Afternoon sun through stained glass windows - seen from northeast side
I admit, that the town hall looked a bit interesting as I walked along the sidewalk on the the south side of this building (see the 3rd photo), but it wasn't until I saw the sun shine through the stained glass on the northeast side that I was enamoured with the building.
Sun shining on south-facing wall
Looking at the south-facing side
FYI (added later): It DOES look like a church but, according to this Township of Brock website (Sunderland is in Brock Township), the town hall here was built originally as a...town hall. :)

this is a prime example of sun painting. the building is pretty but nothing special until the sun paints it. that first photo is amazing..
ReplyDeleteThe sun is always a good painter.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is an excellent photo, well done.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like sun streaming through a stained glass window, especially when viewing from the inside.
ReplyDeleteWalked the dog this morning on a crust of ice covered snow, imagine your side of the lake is the same.
I would have bet money that was a church! Such beautiful windows are not often seen in a town hall!
ReplyDeletethose windows are too cool!! very cool. ( :

ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful place!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a charming place to see! Thank for sharing with us too.
ReplyDeleteGosh me too Tina, I thought it was a church at first glance! That first shot with the sun in the windows is gorgeous, almost as if a light was glowing inside.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks like it was built as a church!
ReplyDeleteThe right light can work wonders. It does look like a church.
ReplyDeleterepurposed building? beautiful!

ReplyDeleteFine buildings, amazing brickwork!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how just a little light an change the whole picture. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a church, too!!! Beautiful brickwork!! Terrific captures as always! Hope you have a great new week!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if at one time it doubled as the town church - so unique for a town hall to display such glorious windows. Beautiful sun and windows.
ReplyDeleteI love how you've captured the light behind the church windows in your first shot.
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful building. I would think a church too, but given that it's been there over a century, it's not terribly likely to have been a repurposed church.
ReplyDeleteThis church is one I would love to visit. Even beautiful glass needs a spark from the sun to bring out the glow.
ReplyDeleteThe light adds so much to the top shot!
ReplyDeleteThe windows are wonderful! Brilliant and sunny, I have never seen anything like them!
ReplyDeleteAny idea why the former church has been repurposed as a municipal building? It's beautiful. Near me there is a former church that is now a city library. It too is a grand building but a different architectural design from this one.
ReplyDeleteso enticing!
ReplyDeleteOh, you are right!!! The sun in those windows makes the building so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous top shot EG!
ReplyDeleteDOn't you love these buildings?
ReplyDeleteHow is your snowfall?

ReplyDeleteIt does look very much like a church! Love the stained glass!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it does look like a church (at least from the outside). The windows are just glowing from the sunshine. Your timing was just right to catch this beauty. Welcome back to ☀Sunlit Sunday!

Brilliant colours in that first image, EG.
ReplyDeleteThe builder must have had church plans. Interesting post and photo.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful golden glow at the windows.
ReplyDeleteNice architecture too.
The sunlight through those windows reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting.Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I would have been fooled into believing it was a church if you hadn't said differently.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful building and I like the sun shining through the coloured glass windows. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI love the first shot!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful windows.
ReplyDeleteThat really does look like a church!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful building to capture. I like the windows, too!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I love those shining windows!
ReplyDeleteYour update addressed my question. It sure does look like a church to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and I'm glad I've visited after your update. I'd have bet this was a repurposed church building. It really is lovely, and seems more graceful than a typical civic structure.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely natural materials like brick and stone are - they endure for a long time and the light on them is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow - those windows are just glorious!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building, I love the first shot.
ReplyDeleteVery well photographed.
Best regards, Irma
Wow, I would have thought church, too. It is a beauty, whether town hall or church.
