Coot standing on ice looking for seeds
One week after saying HERE I was hoping I'd see a coot walk onto some ice, guess what! I photographed a coot on ice!
Looking for seeds or admiring its feet?

I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
Looks a bit funny the way it stands on the ice. :) And I love the second one, I think it's admiring it's feet :D

Their feet are hilarious and that last shot of great.
ReplyDeleteI saw on the news that ice still on the bodies of water in Ontario is a problem for migrating birds. They land exhausted and there is no water to drink or food to be found.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, he looks to be treading very carefully!
ReplyDeleteThey are cool birds.

ReplyDeleteI think this is the first time I've seen one close up. Sometimes we take certain birds for granted.

ReplyDeleteLooking for seeds stuck to those scaly feet? Brilliant capture!
ReplyDeleteNice close up. You can really see their feet are not like you'd imagine.
ReplyDeleteThe feet have a very reptilian look to them.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing pictures. I've seen a coot but always in the water, so have never thought about its feet. Have a great day. Jo
ReplyDeleteI have never seen feet with puffy toes like this! (well, on birds, that is) They are really a sight to behold, and they look almost blue.

Thanks for sharing a close up of the coot. A few weeks back I had a post about them, I didn't know what they were until one commenter said they were coots, but I shot them from afar.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
neat photos
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the Coot on the ice. We have Coots here in Australia but I can imagine how surprised they would be if they had to walk on ice!!
ReplyDeleteNice shot!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for correcting me on my goose identification. I got my post corrected.
I guess I'll never be a birder if I can't tell a goose from a swan.
So unusual.
ReplyDeletewow what an unusual looking bird! love it
ReplyDeleteHah! I love the caption for the second shot! If it's not admiring its feet your commenters are making up for it. And I still love those red eyes!
ReplyDeleteIt has big feet for a bird!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot of the coots foot! I always looked forward to when they stopped by our lake when migrating Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteWow, look at those feet, cool!
ReplyDeleteHaha
ReplyDeleteNow all you have to do is wish for a shot and it comes your way. You are a photographer through and through.
=)
So neat to see! He's definitely an interesting-looking bird.
ReplyDeleteCoots are great! I love the way the mother Eurasian Coots take food back and forth to their babies. Great shots of the feet!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you get what you wish for! :-) Very cool.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, the (American) coot and the (European) moorhen are SOOO similar! I think the only difference that is really obvious is the color of the beaks. I just noticed that.
Wow! Those are cute coot feet! Actually, they are amazing feet...so glad you got a photograph of them. I have only ever seen them in water.
ReplyDeleteJust checking to see what I have missed...not blogging for a while yet.
