Dome on St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Oshawa
I have passed this church many times on the 401 (major highway between Toronto and Ottawa or Montreal) but have never stopped to take photos of it. Well I made a wrong turn and guess what was right there! Serendipity - now I don't have to figure out how to find it.
Longer view
It's a handsome building, don't you think? And definitely looks Slavic in design. Too bad there were utility wires, cars and a guardrail between me and the church to make this photo.
The front doors
I like how all the doors and windows are arched and that there are arches in the domes too.
Door handles
Even the doorhandles are attractive!

ReplyDeleteA lovely building.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful and interesting bulding! Are there so much people from Ukrainia in your aera?..
ReplyDeleteThe front doors look newer than the rest of the building. I wonder if they replaced the original doors. This is one eyecatching church especially the dome.
ReplyDeleteClassic building! Ukranian Orthodox, I wondered, but no Slavic double crosses - it's Catholic. How interesting!
ReplyDeleteAnd well photo'ed as usual

I like the front doors ... beautiful
ReplyDeleteI like the arched doorways too. There is a Ukranian Orthodox church closer to where I live but it is much smaller than the one in your photos. Glad you found out how to get to the church in future.
ReplyDeleteWe have never heard of this church! But the building is large and beautiful. The domes are reminiscent of Russia or the middle east. I wonder what their membership is...
ReplyDeleteI'm fascinated by those decorative door handles.
ReplyDeleteHandles can be a piece of art :)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.

ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely looking church. Love the dome and those very pretty door handles.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture.
ReplyDeleteThe door is definitely Old World like:) In Italy we saw many domes like this, but I think they were Catholic.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful church and great photos!
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a saying that sometimes the wrong turns take you to the right places? It's quite a lovely building. I wonder if that green roof is copper.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Church to photograph.
ReplyDeleteThe dome reminds me of the Russian Orthodox churches we saw in Alaska, but they were always blue. Beautiful pictures .... Every detail is perfect. I love that you found it by getting lost!
ReplyDeleteVery impressive. The doors are inviting.

The doors are very nice looking. Catholic churches are often so beautiful to photograph--a lot of them went all out on the architecture!
ReplyDeleteAs you say, Slavis design, it almost looks like a model in the second picture because it's so perfect
ReplyDeletenice dome, in Borneo when I was growing up as a Roman catholic, there wasn't a church with a dome.
