Battered Windmill

 Target practice

Old windmills not in use often become temptations for boys with rifles. This one is out in the middle of nowhere and so is probably the only thing damaged by guns in this field once frequented by cattle.

The b&w version added later. What do you think?

  8. I am thinking when the bullet hit, it would make it go round... fun but so destructive.. it did make for good camera fodder though

    Lovely eye, you have!
    I'm so happy to see colourful flowers, I haven't done B & W photos.

  18. Oh what a shame it's been used for target practice.. I think I like the coloured one this time EG, the rust is tres visually appealing.

  19. I like it in the monochrome - not black and white - the best. It shows the rust. Also I am so old that I remember when all there was was black and white and after all this time I'm still a little in awe of 'kodachrome' (which is so much better now than it was at first of course). Anyway a beautiful picture but too bad for this icon to be disintegrating.

  20. It's kind of sad to see such old relics in this condition. I guess boys will be boys. Nice shots!

  21. Good grief, so you have people practising just like that???

  22. We do not see many of these around anymore...

  23. Something lovely has now become an eyesore. We have lots of windmills around here, but I have never seen any damaged like this. Those boys need some sort of consequences.

  26. I prefer color 99% of the time:) Love the quirkiness of this battered windmill!

  27. As long as it's only old relics they use for target practice.

  28. Boys look for objects for target practice here too. An old mailbox at my aunt's farm (she been deceased about 25 years) looks similar to the windmill blades. I like the color version best.

  29. very nice and rustic, wonder how old it is?

  30. Lovely shots of the rustic windmill ~ Sad that 'young boys' have to destroy ~ There is beauty in that windmill still!

I have seen 'boys' shoot some highway signs in Texas and elsewhere.
    Have a Beautiful Day!
    Peace :)

  34. Bored boys have to have something to do.

    (I prefer the colored photo.)

  35. It's a great subject. I think I prefer the colored version. Those faded bits of color help tell the story, a poignant one.

  37. I like the middle coloured shot - it smacks of character and tells its own story!

  38. Old and broken down, yet a great photo subject.

  39. Lovely old structure. I even like the bullet holes - they are part of the story too. In fact I prefer the colour versions, with all those rich rust shades.

  40. There's an old old truck in the field across the road used for the same purpose. :) I like these photos in colour against the blue sky.
