Prairie Smoke

Prairie Smoke seed heads (in front of a fence that you cannot see in this photo)

This is not a common wild flower in south-central Ontario, but grows beautifully on the Carden Plain northeast of where I live.

Prairie Smoke flowers

You can sorta see the fence in the background.

 Prairie Smoke

On the Carden Plain, most of the Prairie Smoke grows within the confines of pasture fences, but a few wayward plants grow on the outside.

Inside one of the fences

The seed heads look a bit like pink smoke in the distance.

  39. The name seems very appropriate. I have seen something very like it around here, but I'm not enough of a botanist to tell if it is the same. and we have no prairies :-)

  44. So beautiful! And love the name. It would make a good title for a book or painting. But to really think about it, it would probably spark fear if prairie smoke was seen in earlier times.
