Home Place Portal

 Atop a small hill

Home Place Portal was built 15 years ago and, according to the designer, the portal is about change: the past, present and future. It's part of a public park - a magical place - on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Pickering.

 Home Place Portal

Twenty utility poles of varying lengths growing to the highest at the centre are arranged on two intersecting circles, each symbolizing completeness. Coming together, the circles represent community.  This structure and the rest of Home Place is chock full of spiritual meaning and interpretation. To find out more you can check out this website HERE.

  7. The symbolism of the telephone poles is lost on me, which is unusual since I always enjoy contemporary art. Love the lilacs!

  19. Interesting artistic design with the inward leaning poles somewhat reminiscent of the poles in a teepee before the covering wraps around the family/community living there.

  25. It has a rather mysterious essence, a good one, at that. I love the way the poles all seem to draw the eye.
