December 21/ Nature Notes

Icy but not totally frozen

Today is the last day of autumn 2011. Officially winter begins tomorrow in the wee morning hours (12:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time).

This photo - taken last weekend - is of a shallow, slow moving creek at the side of a country road. Snow had fallen here when the water was higher, then as the creek water receded, chunks of icy snow were left suspended on the reeds.

To me, it looks more like spring than autumn. Since then the temperature has fallen significantly so I imagine it's all ice now.

Please visit Michelle at Rambling Woods for more NATURE NOTES.

I really like the blue/beige color combo in this photo. I'm thinking "art project" here :-)

the way the weather is at the moment, I am guessing there will be no snow at all now. Super photo,

Went for a walk here this morning in just a t-shirt! Love the reflections in the icy water.

Thanks for explaining what I was looking at. I couldn't imagine how ice could be up in the reeds like that. Looked like plastic bags or litter.

You have a good eye as I've told you before...I mean, who else would have noticed ice suspended on reeds? Not I, for sure!

I really like the way you've captured that 'suspended' icy snow.

Lovely blues - the temperature here goes up and down, but we haven't had snow since our freak storm of Oct. 27. I like the peaceful look of your photo.
